In this role, the Senior Claims Consultant works closely with the Claims Manager to develop and implement performance benchmarks and service standards for the Risk Management Services department. The consultant will actively engage in claim evaluations, legal reviews, and detailed financial analyses to assess the impact of claims on clients and the company itself. They are also responsible for updating claims systems, communicating effectively with stakeholders, and providing detailed management reporting.
This position demands strong negotiation and problem-solving traits, computer proficiency especially in Microsoft Office and agency management systems, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Regular attendance and punctuality are required, reflecting the company's professional standards. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- 10+ years experience in worker's compensation or casualty claims
- strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
- proficient in Microsoft Office and agency management systems
- ability to handle fast-paced and changing priorities
- self-motivated and able to work independently
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- punctual and reliable attendance
Job Qualifications
- 10+ years of worker's compensation and/or casualty claims experience preferred
- bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, marketing preferred
- professional insurance-related designations highly desirable
- possess all licenses required by state insurance departments if applicable
- ability to acquire an adjuster’s license within one year
Job Duties
- Work directly with the Claims Manager to develop performance and service standards
- assist in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of claims management plans and client service responsibilities
- provide management reports to senior management
- train and mentor junior claim colleagues
- evaluate claim documentation for coverage accuracy
- update claims systems with ongoing information
- handle difficult customer or claims situations with adjusters
- respond to inquiries from insureds, claimants, and colleagues
- prepare periodic loss summaries
- assist in creating special claims service plans for VIP clients
- review loss details and analyze claims for financial impact
- follow up for subrogation
- review time lapse on claims reporting and communicate with producers and customers
- reconcile status of open claims with carriers
- review lawsuits, large losses, and complex claims
- compare reserve analysis year-over-year
- analyze new work comp laws
- conduct field inspections
- meet with producers and carrier representatives to resolve issues
- accompany team members on prospect calls
- coordinate with Loss Control and Risk Management Services for high-level claims issues
- assist producers with work comp experience programs
- advise producers and account managers on large claims settlements and status
- maintain agency claims logs and reports
- stay current with changes in legislation and regulation impacting claims
- review public and customer activities to avoid errors and omissions
- participate in training and seminars to maintain licenses and certifications
