The Sales Manager - Catering position at JW Marriott Houston by The Galleria is a full-time management role offering a competitive hourly wage ranging from $33.17 to $43.75 with eligibility for bonus compensation. The role is based on-site at a prestigious location in Houston, Texas, well known for catering to high-end social and corporate clientele. This position is responsible for handling more complex and higher volume social and local corporate catering opportunities that exceed typical sales office parameters, managing bookings generally of 150 covers or more. The Sales Manager will provide day-to-day supervision to the on-property catering sales associates and ensure all contracted local catering and social business is effectively closed and transitioned to operations in a timely manner to guarantee superior service delivery.
Key responsibilities include driving catering revenue growth by actively up-selling and maximizing each business opportunity. The role requires the implementation of the brand’s service strategy and applicable initiatives through every stage of the sales process, fostering strong customer loyalty by delivering service excellence. The Sales Manager will manage the overall sales efforts for the property, respond promptly to incoming catering requests, identify and solicit new business, and negotiate contracts with skill and creativity to optimize business outcomes. Additionally, this role involves strategic development, including creating and executing a catering sales plan that targets revenue and market growth, designing innovative catered event concepts, and overseeing catering sales budgets and forecasting reports.
This position demands a collaborative approach, working closely with off-property sales channels such as the Sales Office, Area Sales, and Enterprise Sales Team to coordinate efforts and avoid duplication. The Sales Manager at JW Marriott Houston will also interact regularly with internal teams including kitchen staff, vendors, competitors, and the local business community to monitor guest satisfaction and ensure seamless coordination between sales and operations departments. The role encourages a proactive approach to customer service, assessing clients' needs before and during events and offering tailored solutions that exceed expectations.
Candidates for this position typically hold a high school diploma or GED with at least two years of relevant experience in sales, marketing, guest services, or front desk roles, or alternatively a two-year degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a closely related field. Preference is given to candidates with at least two years of catering sales experience. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years experience in sales, marketing, guest services, front desk, or related field
- OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major
- Preferred 2 years of catering sales experience
- Ability to supervise and lead sales associates
- Skilled in negotiation and contract closure
