Grand Central Bakery is a pioneering artisan bakery that began its journey in 1989, revolutionizing the bread scene in the Pacific Northwest with its rustic, handcrafted loaves. As a Certified B Corporation, Grand Central Bakery integrates social and environmental responsibility into every facet of its business operations, emphasizing sustainability, ethical sourcing, and community engagement. The company’s commitment to using business as a force for good is reflected in its sustainable ingredient sourcing, employee care, and active investment in local communities. This dedication has helped Grand Central Bakery cultivate a loyal customer base and a robust reputation as a leader in sustainable, high-quality bakery products.
The Senior Café Team Member role at Grand Central Bakery is a vital part of the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that defines the company's café spaces. This position is designed for individuals passionate about delivering excellent service and crafting delicious food and beverages. The role includes working efficiently during peak times, such as managing the sandwich bar rush and serving as Person In Charge (PIC) when necessary. The employment type is part-time or full-time with a rate of pay at $17.65 per hour, with tips averaging between $7.00 to $9.00 per hour, reflecting the value Grand Central Bakery places on exceptional customer interaction and service.
Senior Café Team Members are expected to demonstrate flexibility and commitment to the schedule, generally working 4-5 shifts weekly from Tuesday through Saturday. They play an essential role in maintaining the café’s operations, including closing the café and opening the sandwich bar as specialty assignments. Reporting directly to the Café Manager, the Senior Café Team Member exhibits competencies such as strong customer orientation, teamwork, mission focus, and problem-solving skills. These attributes contribute to creating a positive and efficient workplace.
The position requires proficiency in operating espresso machines, including training others, crafting high-quality coffee and espresso drinks with an artistic touch, and managing inventory for coffee-related products. Additionally, team members are responsible for serving bread and pastries meeting Grand Central Bakery’s high standards, preparing sandwiches during busy periods, and executing thorough café cleaning and maintenance routines. The role encourages creativity in product display to maximize sales and insists on adherence to cash handling procedures, safety protocols, and company values.
Grand Central Bakery values diversity, equity, and inclusion, expecting team members to actively promote a culturally inclusive environment and actively oppose racism. Senior Café Team Members are role models for positive impact through their work ethic, professionalism, and collaboration with teammates. The job also includes the physical demands of standing and walking for extended periods, operating café equipment such as espresso machines, ovens, and dishwashers, and working in a dynamic, sometimes loud café environment exposed to grain dust.
Through this role, Senior Café Team Members contribute significantly to the overall customer experience and play a critical part in supporting the bakery’s mission to balance artistry, community focus, and sustainability. This opportunity is ideal for candidates who seek a meaningful, community-oriented work environment that values high standards, teamwork, and a passion for craft bakery and café service.
