This part-time security officer role within the 11926 BayCare Leased Employees - Public Safety department is critical in maintaining a safe and secure environment across Advocate Health facilities. The position is part-time, with a commitment of 24 hours per week, specifically covering the 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with additional hours available on a per diem basis. Compensation for this role ranges from $21.85 to $32.80 per hour, reflecting the importance of the responsibilities and the experience required.
The Security Officer plays an essential role in delivering a professional, customer-service-oriented security presence. This position requires the officer to uphold safety and security policies with fairness, compassion, and professionalism, even under challenging circumstances. Key aspects of the role include conducting interior and exterior patrols to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire risks, as well as performing contraband searches, managing patient valuables, and executing safety inspections. Additional responsibilities include assisting visitors and team members with directions and physical help, ensuring proper traffic control, monitoring visitor conduct, and handling unauthorized persons diplomatically. Training requirements are comprehensive, including a 40-hour academy in Milwaukee, 120 hours of in-house training across various shifts, and an annual in-service training session, with accommodations provided. Certification as a Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) within two years of appointment is mandatory, along with other state-specific training and licensure requirements. Physically, the position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, with occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds. Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum 1 year experience in security related public safety or customer service with emergent situation response
- Valid driver’s license
- Completion of required state-specific security courses (e.g., Illinois 20-hour Basic Security Officer course)
- Certification or ability to become certified in CHSO within 2 years
- For Illinois teammates Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID)
- For Wisconsin teammates Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license
- Certification in Conducted Energy Weapon use within 90 days of hire
- Must pass background check drug screen and medical evaluations
- Ability to handle physical demands of the role including lifting up to 35 pounds and walking throughout facility grounds
- Ability to work 2nd shift Friday through Sunday with additional per diem shifts available
- Must be emotionally intelligent and demonstrate empathy and compassion
- Must comply with all safety and security regulations and perform duties professionally
Job Qualifications

- For Illinois teammates completion of 20-hour Basic Security Officer course

- For Wisconsin teammates Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license
- Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (TASER) use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in security related public safety or customer service including emergent situation response
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and work collaboratively with medical staff and law enforcement
Job Duties
- Provides security services with a customer-service approach focusing on professionalism fairness and compassion
- Inspires confidence in patients visitors and team members by presenting a professional approachable and service-oriented appearance and demeanor
- Performs routine interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety including inspections to identify vulnerabilities hazards and fire conditions audits of Interim Life Safety Measures patient valuables management and thorough contraband searches
- Assists team members patients and visitors by providing information directions and physical help
- Ensures traffic control monitors conduct of visitors on premises confronts unauthorized persons for questioning
- Prevents responds to and investigates workplace violence
- Responds to service calls including combative or threatening patients visitors and team member incidents
- Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation utilizing use of force when necessary including conducted electrical weapon use and handcuffing
- Plans prevents practices and responds to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants children fire and active threats
- Investigates incidents on Advocate Health property completes timely and accurate reports
- Addresses and escalates complaints to appropriate leaders and provides supporting documentation
- Delivers security awareness education to team members
- Coordinates law enforcement prisoner patient guard ensuring policy compliance and safety
- Maintains department training standards in radio communications verbal de-escalation hemorrhage control CPR clinical restraints and conducted energy weapon use
