The position available is for an entry-level Security Officer within the hospital and other associated Children’s Health System entities. Reporting generally to a Security Officer II, this role is vital to maintaining a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, guests, and staff. Security Officers at Children's Nebraska play an essential role in safeguarding vulnerable populations in a pediatric healthcare setting, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting hospital operations through vigilant monitoring and proactive safety measures. This position emphasizes situational awareness, compassion, and ethical responsibility, aligning with the hospital’s values and standards. Security Officers are responsible for internal and external patrols, responding promptly to incidents, managing potentially volatile situations with minimal force, and carefully documenting activities. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- previous hospital, customer service, or general work experience preferred
- requires ability to read, write, speak, and perform mathematical calculations
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification required
- successful completion of Response to Resistance training or equivalent defensive tactics training within 60 days required
- completion of IAHSS Basic Certified Healthcare Security Officer course within 180 days required
- valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- previous hospital, customer service, or general work experience preferred
- requires ability to read, write, speak, and perform mathematical calculations to complete investigations, reports, and work with the public, patients, visitors, employees and staff in a professional and competent manner
- BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
- successful completion of Response to Resistance training or equivalent defensive tactics training within 60 days
- completion of IAHSS Basic Certified Healthcare Security Officer course within 180 days
- a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record/driving record
Job Duties
- Performs internal and external foot and/or vehicular patrols
- staffs stationary security posts in accordance with standard operating procedures and maintaining a safe and secure environment
- demonstrates situational awareness and addresses threats to the environment in an urgent manner
- responds to calls for service as dispatched by the Security Control Center or self-initiated in a timely manner following established SOPs, demonstrating urgency and professionalism
- effectively controls combative, unruly or intoxicated patients, visitors, employees or trespassers, deescalating the situation using appropriate methods to achieve a desirable outcome
- maintains a safe environment by practicing situational awareness and being observant for safety and security concerns and demonstrative initiative in addressing them in a timely manner
- provides timely information to the Security Control Center Operators to ensure accurate documentation of activity and completes all incident reports in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with policy and SOP
- regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job
- performs physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section
