Job Description

The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), Boston, is one of the most renowned art museums in the world, celebrated for its vast and diverse collection that covers nearly all cultures and time periods. Beyond its exceptional art displays, the MFA serves as a vibrant social destination offering concerts, films, lectures, and educational programs for families and schools. The institution is highly committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, both for its visitors and employees. This commitment reflects in its encouragement of a diverse pool of applicants who share the museum's values of cultural diversity and inclusion. At the MFA, visitors not only experience art but are invited to belong to a community that cherishes creativity, learning, and mutual respect.

The position offers a starting hourly wage of $21.33, with additional shift differentials for first shift, weekend, second, and third shifts. Security Officers at the MFA play a vital role in protecting the museum's valuable collections and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. In this role, officers are responsible for routine patrols of galleries, exterior doors, laboratories, secure areas, and other museum facilities. They also assist with crowd control during popular exhibitions and events. Strong communication skills are essential, as officers maintain regular contact with the Command Center to report any security concerns or unusual incidents and ensure strict adherence to museum security protocols.

Additionally, this role demands excellent observational abilities, reliability, sound judgment, and the ability to handle high-stress situations calmly. Familiarity with security equipment and basic computer skills are required. The MFA values individuals who can work independently, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate both professionalism and strong interpersonal skills. Joining the MFA as a Security Officer means being part of a dedicated team passionate about preserving cultural heritage and creating an inclusive visitor experience. The museum offers various benefits, including medical and dental insurance for full-time employees, transportation discounts, museum entry discounts, continuing education opportunities, wellness programs, and retirement savings plans. The MFA also supports employee well-being through programs such as pet insurance, employee assistance programs, and fitness discounts.
