Job Description

CHRISTUS Health is a nationally recognized healthcare provider committed to improving the health of the communities they serve through high-quality medical services and compassionate care. Established as a faith-based, not-for-profit organization, CHRISTUS Health operates a diverse network of hospitals, clinics, and wellness centers across multiple states. Their focus lies in providing a safe, supportive, and healing environment for patients, families, and associates alike. Known for its dedication to innovation, integrity, and excellence, CHRISTUS Health continuously strives to enhance patient outcomes by integrating cutting-edge medical technology with empathetic patient care.

The Armed Security Officer position at CHRISTUS Health is a critical role responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment across hospital facilities. This role demands a uniformed and armed security professional who acts as a visible deterrent against criminal activities while protecting patients, associates, visitors, and hospital assets. The Armed Security Officer diligently patrols assigned buildings and premises, responds swiftly to emergency codes and disaster events, and conducts preliminary investigations for incidents reported within the facilities. This full-time position offers a 12-hour shift work schedule from 6 AM to 6 PM requiring flexibility for rotating schedules and possible travel between multiple CHRISTUS facilities.

Officers must adhere to stringent standards of conduct including the use of approved uniforms aligned with CHRISTUS’s dress code policies. A broad scope of duties encompasses responding to service requests promptly, managing incident reports with accuracy and professionalism, and enforcing all hospital rules, regulations, and state laws applicable to their area of responsibility. Equipped with proficiency in operating security technologies such as digital video recorders, CCTV monitoring, communications radios, and paging systems, the Armed Security Officer plays a vital role in the hospital’s overall safety strategy. Additionally, they are required to monitor parking enforcement, assist clinical staff with combative patients, identify safety hazards, and maintain competence in the use of defensive tools such as handguns, batons, and handcuffs.

This position carries daily exposure to physically and emotionally demanding situations, requiring officers to exhibit excellent communication skills, rapid decision-making abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities under stress. Physical fitness is essential, as the role involves extensive walking, standing, restraining individuals when necessary, and assisting nursing staff with patient handling. The security officer is also expected to promote a culture of safety and professionalism, model the competencies tied to leadership development within CHRISTUS, and comply with all licensing and training requirements including weapon qualifications and de-escalation training.

Overall, the Armed Security Officer role at CHRISTUS Health is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for security professionals seeking to make a difference in a dynamic healthcare setting. Those who thrive in this position are adaptable, vigilant, and committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and patient care within a trusted healthcare organization.
