Job Description
CHRISTUS Health is a faith-based, not-for-profit health system that integrates advanced medical technology with a strong commitment to compassionate care. Operating numerous medical facilities across multiple states, CHRISTUS Health has established itself as a leading healthcare provider dedicated to promoting healing and wellness through a patient-centered approach. The organization emphasizes community involvement, a supportive work environment, and professional growth opportunities for its employees. With a robust network that includes hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, and specialty care services, CHRISTUS Health remains committed to delivering excellent healthcare and ensuring a safe environment for all patients, staff, and visitors.
The Armed Security Officer role at CHRISTUS Health is a full-time position with a 12-hour night shift from 6PM to 6AM, focusing on providing vigilant security services across hospital facilities. This position requires the officer to be uniformed at all times and act as a visible deterrent to criminal activity while protecting patients, associates, visitors, hospital buildings, and assets. The Armed Security Officer responds promptly to emergency codes, internal and external disaster events, conducts preliminary investigations, and handles various security tasks as assigned by supervisors or managers. A critical aspect of this role involves flexibility in work hours and the ability to rotate between different facilities as well as travel as required by operational needs.
This position demands adherence to CHRISTUS Health dress codes with approved uniforms and a strong emphasis on professional conduct. Armed Security Officers are expected to meet the OneCHRISTUS competency standards, demonstrating leadership qualities whether as leaders of self, others, or larger teams. Key responsibilities include conducting frequent patrols of facilities and grounds, identifying and reporting security trends, preparing timely and accurate incident reports without personal bias, and responding courteously and effectively to service requests. Officers must enforce all organizational policies and local laws, manage parking regulations, assist associates with combative individuals, and maintain proficiency with security equipment such as radios, paging systems, CCTV monitors, and digital video recorders.
Moreover, officers need to promote a safe environment by identifying hazards like broken sprinkler lines, smoke or gas odors, and other safety risks during patrols. Physical fitness is essential due to extensive walking, standing, stooping, and lifting requirements. The role often involves exposure to aggressive behavior, emotionally charged situations, and occasionally hazardous conditions like fires or chemical spills. Armed Security Officers are also expected to demonstrate competence in handgun use, handcuffing, baton handling, and non-crisis intervention techniques, along with effective communication skills, mental alertness, and the ability to prioritize tasks under stress.
The role requires several mandatory trainings within 60 days of hire, including verbal de-escalation and BLS certification, as well as comprehensive firearms and defensive tactics training before authorization to carry weapons is granted. Candidates must successfully complete multiple psychological assessments and drug screenings, maintain a valid driver’s license, and meet CHRISTUS Health driving standards. Special licensing and training requirements vary depending on the state of employment, including active commissions for Texas positions and additional training authorizations for New Mexico and Louisiana positions. This position offers an opportunity for individuals dedicated to security and safety within a meaningful healthcare setting, balancing professional expectations with personal development in a trusted and respected health system.
