Job Description

CHRISTUS Health is a comprehensive healthcare system known for its commitment to delivering exceptional health services across a wide network of hospitals and healthcare facilities. Dedicated to compassionate care and innovative medical practices, CHRISTUS Health emphasizes the safety and well-being of every patient, associate, and visitor within its premises. Operating in diverse regions, the organization places a high priority on security, aiming to maintain safe environments that foster healing and professional operations.

This Full-Time Armed Security Officer position plays a critical role within CHRISTUS Health, focused on protecting hospital buildings, assets, and people through vigilant security measures and proactive incident response. The role requires a uniformed presence at all times to deter criminal activity and ensure safety for all individuals on the premises. Primarily responsible for frequent patrolling and safeguarding hospital grounds, the Armed Security Officer is also tasked with responding to emergencies, conducting initial investigations, and assisting with situations involving combative patients or visitors. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills, physical fitness to perform demanding duties, and proficiency with security technology including digital video recording systems and radio dispatch.

Given the dynamic nature of healthcare environments, flexibility is essential in this position. The Armed Security Officer may rotate between facilities and be required to travel as needed. The role calls for strict adherence to CHRISTUS Health policies, state laws, and regulations, while maintaining professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive incidents and reports. Safety hazard identification, enforcement of parking regulations, and prompt handling of lost and found items further expand this role’s responsibilities. Completion of various security and safety trainings including verbal de-escalation and basic life support (BLS) is mandated within a short timeframe following hire.

The Armed Security Officer must also meet specific licensing and certification criteria, varying slightly by location, including possession of appropriate security commissions or authorization to carry assigned weapons. Additional prerequisites include successful completion of psychological assessments and maintaining an acceptable driving record to align with CHRISTUS Health’s standards. This role demands mental alertness, the ability to manage stressful and occasionally hostile situations, and a commitment to the organization’s core competencies such as leadership and personal accountability.

This 12-hour shift, 3 days per week schedule supports full-time employment status and offers the opportunity to serve a valuable function in an influential healthcare provider. Suitable candidates will possess a minimum of two years' armed security experience, preferably in healthcare or law enforcement, and meet all licensing and training mandates. Through dedication and vigilance, the Armed Security Officer contributes significantly to the safe and secure environment that CHRISTUS Health strives to uphold, creating a foundation of trust and safety for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
