Job Description

CHRISTUS Health is a prominent faith-based, not-for-profit health system committed to providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare services across multiple states, specializing in patient-centered care and community health enhancement. Operating with a mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, CHRISTUS Health integrates clinical excellence with a strong emphasis on holistic support for patients, associates, and visitors alike. The system encompasses a broad spectrum of healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and outpatient centers, making it one of the recognized leaders in the healthcare sector with an enduring commitment to ethical and responsive service delivery.

The role of the Armed Security Officer at CHRISTUS Health is a critical component of ensuring the safety and security of the hospital environment. This full-time position involves maintaining a constant uniformed presence as a visible deterrent to criminal activity, protecting patients, associates, visitors, and the facility's assets. The officer plays a pivotal role in patrolling hospital premises, responding swiftly to emergency situations, internal or external disasters, and conducting preliminary investigations on reported incidents. The role demands the officer to exhibit flexibility in working hours and assignments, including the necessity to travel between different facilities as required.

This position requires adherence to CHRISTUS-approved uniforms and dress codes, reflecting the professionalism and discipline expected within the health system environment. The Armed Security Officer's duties are multifaceted, spanning from enforcing policies and laws to managing parking violations and supporting clinical staff with potentially combative individuals. The officer is also responsible for operating security technologies such as surveillance systems, paging, and radio communications, thereby ensuring effective monitoring and response capabilities.

The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency with security equipment and computer systems to document incidents and generate reports accurately and efficiently. Mental alertness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations, including aggressive behaviors and potentially violent encounters, are essential. Physical fitness is also paramount, as the job entails long periods of walking, standing, and sometimes restraining or lifting individuals in line with nursing staff cooperation.

The position emphasizes personal and professional growth by supporting ongoing competency development through the OneCHRISTUS competencies framework and requires compliance with rigorous training, licensing, and certification standards. These include weapon management, verbal de-escalation, first aid certification, and meeting all administrative prerequisites such as psychological assessments and valid driving credentials. The security officer is charged not only with immediate safety concerns but also with promoting a hazard-free environment by identifying and reporting conditions that could pose risks to staff and patients.

Overall, this role is vital to upholding the safety, dignity, and well-being of everyone within the CHRISTUS Health facilities. It embodies a commitment to protect and serve in a healthcare setting where sensitivity, responsibility, and efficiency are demanded under all circumstances.
