Job Description
CHRISTUS Health is a renowned healthcare organization dedicated to providing exceptional medical services and ensuring the safety and well-being of all its patients, associates, and visitors. As a faith-based entity, the organization emphasizes compassionate care, community involvement, and a commitment to health and safety within its facilities. Recognized for its comprehensive network of hospitals and care centers, CHRISTUS Health takes pride in creating secure environments where healing and wellness can thrive without interruptions. The organization employs various talented professionals, including specialized security personnel, who align with its mission to uphold safety and professionalism across all campuses and properties.
This job opportunity is for an Armed Security Officer within CHRISTUS Health, a crucial uniformed position requiring constant vigilance and readiness to respond to a variety of security-related situations. The role is designed to deter criminal activity visibly and to protect hospital grounds, assets, staff, and visitors. Armed Security Officers play an integral part in maintaining the overall security protocols by performing patrols, responding to emergency codes, and conducting preliminary incident investigations. This full-time position offers multiple shift options, providing flexibility while serving in either fixed or rotating assignments across multiple facilities, sometimes involving travel.
In this capacity, the Armed Security Officer is expected to adhere to strict uniform standards, wear CHRISTUS-approved attire consistently in line with the organization’s dress code, and uphold the OneCHRISTUS Competencies focusing on personal leadership and teamwork. The job demands physical fitness for extensive walking, standing, stooping, and lifting, as well as mental alertness to handle high-pressure situations that may include aggressive behavior or emergencies like fires or chemical spills. The officer will also engage in enforcing facility rules, managing parking regulations, and assisting clinical and non-clinical associates when confronted with combative patients or visitors.
Proficiency with security technology and communication systems is mandatory, including the operation of Attendant Consoles, paging, dispatch radios, CCTV surveillance, and computer-based reporting tools. The role necessitates high competency in using firearms, handcuffs, batons, and non-crisis intervention techniques. Officers must be capable of producing accurate, timely, and factual incident reports free from personal bias. Additionally, the position requires interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and de-escalate tense situations using verbal techniques and strong decision-making aligned with laws, policies, and procedures.
CHRISTUS Health values ongoing professional development; therefore, officers are required to complete essential training such as Verbal De-escalation, Basic Life Support (BLS), and specialized weapons and defense tactics training within specified periods. These requirements ensure that security staff are fully prepared to meet the challenges posed by healthcare environments. Certification and compliance with state-specific licensing regulations, such as the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau commission or equivalent training depending on location, are also mandatory.
Overall, the Armed Security Officer role at CHRISTUS Health offers a meaningful career path dedicated to preserving the safety and dignity of all who enter the healthcare facilities. With excellent communication demands, physical challenges, and a focus on protective services, this position is vital to the organization’s mission. Candidates must possess high ethical standards, physical stamina, mental resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility to excel in this dynamic and impactful position. This full-time job provides an opportunity to serve a respected health system while contributing to a secure and caring community environment.
