The opportunity to join Mercy Hospital of Buffalo as a full-time receptionist on Shift 1 brings an important role that supports the smooth operation of the healthcare facility. The receptionist acts as the initial point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff alike, delivering courteous and professional service across various communication channels. This position entails responsibilities such as answering telephone calls promptly, taking accurate messages, managing appointment scheduling, and providing routine information clearly and courteously. Additionally, the role requires competent typing skills to accurately produce correspondence, forms, reports, statistics, memorandums, and minutes according to the director’s instructions.
Beyond the communication and clerical duties, this position supports office functionality by managing supply orders, copying, filing, and handling errands as assigned. The receptionist is expected to have knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures, combined with strong computer skills, including proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and Excel applications. Accuracy, confidentiality especially concerning medical records, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a busy medical office environment are essential traits for success in this role.
This full-time position operates within a well-structured work schedule typically from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, allowing for a consistent daytime routine. The role demands patience, interpersonal skills, and professionalism while interacting respectfully with patients, physicians, and co-workers. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- previous secretarial experience
- proficiency in medical terminology and office procedures
- ability to type at least 60 words per minute
- working knowledge of Windows operating system
- ability to use Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
- capacity to maintain confidentiality with sensitive medical information
- availability to work Monday through Friday during daytime hours
- ability to sit for long periods
- good concentration and decorum in busy work environment
Job Qualifications
- high school graduate
- knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures
