Job Description
The Clark County School District (CCSD) is one of the largest public school districts in the United States, serving the diverse educational needs of a vast student population in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a commitment to fostering educational excellence, the district also emphasizes the importance of providing nutritious and balanced meals through its Food Service Department. This department plays a crucial role in supporting student health and learning by ensuring that meals served in schools meet high standards of quality, safety, and nutritional value. CCSD's Food Service Department not only adheres to established food safety regulations but also promotes best practices in food preparation and service across its many school sites.
The Secondary Food Service Manager position is a vital role within the CCSD Food Service Department, based primarily at Helen C. Cannon Junior High School in Las Vegas. This role offers a nine-month employment term, working eight hours a day, and focuses on assisting in the management and operation of the school’s food service program. The Secondary Food Service Manager is responsible for helping ensure that food preparation and service run smoothly, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
This position is ideal for individuals who have experience in institutional, commercial, or school district food services and are committed to fostering a safe and efficient food service environment. The successful candidate will oversee daily food service operations, assist with staff supervision and training, maintain food safety standards, and support the overall nutritional goals of the school district. Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to the work location and are required to obtain specific food safety and managerial certifications within the first year of employment, including a Food Handler Safety Training Card and a Food Protection Manager Certification such as ServSafe.
By joining the CCSD Food Service Department, Secondary Food Service Managers become part of a team dedicated to enhancing the school community’s well-being through quality meal service. This position not only provides a meaningful career path in food service management within an educational setting but also offers the opportunity to develop skills and certifications that are valuable in the broader food service industry. The role requires a combination of practical food service experience, knowledge of food safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively within a school environment.
