As a prominent hospital in the region, it is dedicated to delivering patient-centered and high-quality medical care while fostering a compassionate and equitable environment. The facility is well-regarded for its commitment to academic medicine, innovative strategies in healthcare, and community health improvement initiatives. Operating within the Dietary-Management Department, Jersey City Medical Center integrates advanced practices to ensure excellent nutritional services and management for its patients and staff.
The role of Second Cook at Jersey City Medical Center is a vital position within the Dietary-Management team, designed for individuals passionate about food preparation and nutrition in a healthcare setting. This part-time, evening shift position offers an hourly wage of $21.11 and involves approximately 18.75 hours per week, with potential work every other weekend depending on departmental needs. The Second Cook will work under the supervision of a Food and Nutrition Services Supervisor or Manager and will be responsible for efficiently preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a wide variety of hot and/or cold food items. These meals will cater to various service periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events.
This culinary role is essential to the operational success of the Dietary-Management Department, requiring knowledge of food production, sanitation standards, and service protocols within a healthcare environment. Candidates will apply cooking skills specifically tailored to the needs of hospital patients, balancing dietary restrictions, nutrition guidelines, and presentation standards to ensure that each meal supports patient health and satisfaction. The position also maintains flexibility and adaptability, as certain responsibilities may vary depending on client and business requirements across different accounts managed by Sodexo, the food services provider.
Jersey City Medical Center emphasizes the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and hygiene standards in all kitchen operations. The selected candidate will join a dynamic team committed to supporting the community’s nutritional health through high-quality meal preparation and exceptional service. Beyond the immediate duties, this role offers an opportunity for culinary professionals to contribute to a leading academic health system, where continuous improvement, education, and patient-centered care are top priorities.
In addition to competitive pay, employees at Jersey City Medical Center benefit from a robust total rewards package offered by RWJBarnabas Health. This includes paid time off, comprehensive medical and prescription drug insurance options, dental and vision coverage, retirement plans, disability and life insurance, tuition reimbursement, and wellness programs. The organization also supports work-life balance and offers voluntary benefits such as pet insurance along with discounts through partnerships with local entertainment and service providers. Joining this team means becoming part of a healthcare community dedicated not only to patient wellness but also to supporting the professional growth and well-being of its staff.
