The Town of Palm Beach is a vibrant and picturesque community located in Palm Beach, Florida, renowned for its pristine parks and recreational facilities that serve both residents and visitors. Dedicated to maintaining an exceptional quality of life, the Town's Parks and Recreation Department focuses on providing safe, clean, and welcoming environments where people of all ages can enjoy outdoor activities and community programs. The Town values the importance of well-maintained public spaces in enhancing community well-being and fostering social connections. As a local government employer, the Town is committed to offering meaningful employment opportunities that contribute to the community's vitality and pride. This particular part-time, on-demand role offers a flexible variable schedule suited for individuals seeking work with varying hours based on facility needs, including availability on weekends and holidays. The hourly pay rate for this position is $17, reflecting the responsibility and skill required to uphold the standards of the Town's recreational venues.
This role is that of a Maintenance Laborer within the Town of Palm Beach Parks and Recreation Department, with primary assignments at Seaview Park and Phipps Ocean Park Tennis Center. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that these community assets remain safe, clean, and fully operational through a combination of janitorial duties, facility maintenance, equipment setup and teardown, and repair tasks. This position demands a proactive approach to identifying maintenance issues, executing routine and minor repairs, and conducting thorough safety inspections of both indoor and outdoor facility areas. A Maintenance Laborer in this capacity acts as a visible and approachable representative of the Town, interacting regularly with employees, residents, and visitors to promote a positive community experience. Physical fitness and the ability to carry out manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, are necessary to perform the duties effectively in the diverse weather conditions typical of South Florida. The position works closely under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, contributing as part of a collaborative team to uphold the highest standards for the Town's recreation centers. An essential component of the hiring process includes a comprehensive 10-panel drug screening and mandatory Cyber Awareness Essentials training upon onboarding, reinforcing the Town's commitment to workplace safety and security.
Daily responsibilities in this role begin with inspecting and assessing facilities to determine cleanliness and maintenance priorities, followed by cleaning restrooms, common areas, and recreational spaces to maintain an inviting environment. Throughout the day, the Maintenance Laborer will be expected to set up and dismantle equipment and furniture to support various events and programming, respond to minor repair needs promptly, and operate a range of powered and non-powered tools safely. Monitoring for potential safety hazards and addressing or reporting these issues is critical to ensuring the safety of all park users. Effective communication and courteous interaction with the public and team members support the Town's goal of fostering a strong community connection and a safe recreational atmosphere. This role is ideal for candidates who take pride in their manual work, value community service, and seek a job that combines physical activity with essential facility maintenance tasks in an outdoor and indoor setting.
