Appleton Parks and Recreation is a dedicated community-focused organization committed to providing high-quality recreational programs and facilities for residents of Appleton and surrounding areas. This role is integral to the success of the soccer program run by Appleton Parks and Recreation. The position involves supervision of soccer fields at the USA Youth Sports Complex during scheduled games on Saturdays, ensuring that all operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. As an essential on-site staff member, you will be responsible for acting as a central point of contact for soccer staff and participants, managing equipment, overseeing the playing environment, and attending to administrative duties like completing incident reports and maintaining accurate documentation. This is a seasonal role covering training in August and Saturday work from mid-September through late October. The rate of pay falls between $17.88 and $19.97 per hour, classified as Pay Grade 4.
Beyond operational responsibilities, the role includes supporting the program coordinator with critical office tasks such as preparation of materials, staff evaluations, and coordination meetings. The position demands excellent organizational skills, attention to safety standards, and a proactive approach to maintaining a positive environment for players, coaches, spectators, and staff. Adherence to the City of Appleton dress code by wearing the Parks and Recreation staff uniform is mandatory, reflecting professionalism and unity. Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- Available to work Saturdays from September 12 through October 24
- Ability to attend training in August
- Reliable transportation to various facilities
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and City of Appleton dress code
- Good physical condition to perform setup and supervision duties
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage conflicts and escalate issues appropriately
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- Experience in sports supervision or recreational program support preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work Saturdays during the sports season
- Knowledge of safety protocols in sports environments
- Basic office skills for administrative assistance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with standard office software preferred
Job Duties
- Report to site at least 30 minutes prior to first scheduled game each Saturday
- Supervise fields used by Appleton Parks and Recreation at USA Youth Sports Complex
- Be a check in point for all soccer staff
- Set up all equipment
- Hand out balls, staff binders, and any other needed equipment
- Maintain a safe playing atmosphere and environment
- Monitor condition of equipment, recommending replacement when needed
- Complete facility check sheet
- Complete accident report forms for any injury requiring treatment
- At the conclusion of the games drop off score sheets, pay sheets, facility check sheet, accident report forms if any at designated site
- Return and secure equipment and supplies to equipment bins at the completion of the games
- Hand out end of season awards to coaches
- Keep cellular phone in proper operating mode
- Report vandalism, damaged equipment, or building faults to Program Coordinator
- Assist Program Coordinator with office tasks prior to the season including copying, computer work, assembling binders and packets, and attending meetings
- Assist Program Coordinator with staff evaluations
- Monitor facility, equipment, participants, and staff
- Wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
- Sign own name on results/pay sheet for hours worked
- Provide a central reference point for all site and program related inquiries by the public and participants
- Manage spectator environment and call police if necessary
- Maintain First Aid equipment at the site
