Job Description

Music & Arts is the nation’s leading partner in K-12 music education, dedicated to nurturing a lifelong passion for music in students across the country. Founded in 1952 by Benjamin O’Brien in Bethesda, MD, the company initially offered a variety of creative resources including printed music, music lessons, dance lessons, and art supplies. Over time, the focus narrowed specifically to music, allowing the company to better serve its customers with a dedicated commitment to musical instruments and education. Today, Music & Arts operates as the largest band and orchestra instrument retailer in the United States, boasting over 225 retail stores, more than 200 educational representatives, and over 250 affiliate locations nationwide. As part of the Guitar Center enterprise, Music & Arts combines decades of experience, a deep understanding of the music education landscape, and a passion for inspiring musicians and non-musicians alike.

This seasonal role plays a critical part in bringing school instrument rental events to life throughout the assigned marketplace. Working closely with Education Account Managers, the individual in this position will help with every aspect of event preparation, setup, and execution. This involves setting up tables and signage, managing event flow, and ensuring all instruments and supplies are properly arranged and ready. During these events, the role shifts to a customer-facing position where the person will greet parents and students, assist with the instrument rental process, answer inquiries, and help families select the instruments or accessories they need. Utilizing simple mobile and tablet tools, the individual will efficiently reserve inventory and complete rental paperwork, allowing for a smooth and timely event experience.

The job requires a balance of physical activity — including lifting and moving instruments up to 50 pounds — with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support diverse groups of people. Flexibility is essential, as the work schedule includes evenings and necessitates travel between preparation sites and school event locations within the assigned region. Ideal candidates should be proficient in basic computer applications like MS Office and should hold a valid state driver’s license with automotive insurance. Previous knowledge of band and orchestral instruments is considered a plus, enhancing the ability to serve customers more effectively.

Music & Arts fosters a workplace culture centered on respect, integrity, and passion for music. The company believes in providing a joyful and meaningful musical experience not only to its customers but also to its employees. Those hired will undergo required training and may be called upon to assist with additional tasks beyond the core job responsibilities. With its rich history and nationwide footprint, Music & Arts offers an exciting opportunity for those who want to contribute to music education and support the next generation of musicians. This seasonal position is perfect for individuals ready to engage with communities, support a vital educational mission, and be part of a dynamic, music-focused team.
