Job Description
The City of Madison, Alabama, is seeking dedicated and energetic individuals to join their Recreation Department as Seasonal Part-Time Recreation Aides. Located at Dublin Park, 8324 Madison Pike, Madison, AL, the department is committed to enhancing community wellness and engagement through a variety of recreational activities and programs available to residents of all ages. As a local government entity, the City of Madison provides exceptional community services, focusing on sports, camps, special events, and facility maintenance in well-equipped city gymnasiums, fields, courts, pools, and other recreational areas. This seasonal position is ideal for those passionate about public service, physical activities, and youth engagement, offering a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to the community's recreational experience while gaining valuable work experience.
This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $13.13 to $14.49, dependent on experience, and is open continuously until sufficient applications are received. The Seasonal Part-Time Recreation Aide will play a crucial role in coordinating and supervising activities in various facilities, ensuring that all areas are safe, clean, and efficiently prepared for recreational use. Responsibilities include securing buildings, monitoring activities to prevent unauthorized use or behavior, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting with the setup and preparation of equipment for sports, camps, and special events. This role requires interaction with a diverse group of patrons including campers, players, coaches, parents, and other community members, serving as a positive role model while actively communicating and cooperating with all participants. The position demands flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during school breaks, reflecting the dynamic schedules typical of community recreational programs.
The ideal candidate must be at least 17 years old, possess a strong work ethic, demonstrate dependability, and have experience or enthusiasm for working with the general public and children. Prior experience in the recreational or educational fields is preferred but not required. Moreover, candidates should have the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, meet physical requirements including mobility for supervisory duties, and maintain a strong driving record for city insurance purposes. CPR and First Aid certification are necessary to ensure the safety of all participants. This role also includes some light maintenance duties, field preparation such as raking and lining ball fields, and assisting with registrations and administrative tasks.
Working in this role provides exposure to various weather conditions and environments, such as outdoor parks and indoor facilities, requiring adaptability and resilience. The City of Madison values the safety and professional development of its Recreation Aides, expecting them to uphold common safety practices and contribute positively to community well-being. Temporary employees in this position are not eligible for benefits or leave time, emphasizing the seasonal nature of this engaging and rewarding opportunity. This position is well suited for those seeking flexible, part-time employment with meaningful community impact during peak recreational seasons.
