Job Description

Madison Senior Center, located within the Madison Community Center at 1329 Browns Ferry Road in Madison, AL, is seeking dedicated individuals for a Seasonal Part-Time position within its Senior Center department. This role is crucial in supporting the community by coordinating and overseeing activities across various city-owned recreational facilities including gymnasiums, fields, courts, pools, camps, and during special events. The establishment is a community-focused public facility dedicated to providing recreational services and programs that foster wellness, engagement, and active lifestyles among residents. As part of the City’s Recreation Department, the Senior Center supports a diverse group of patrons, particularly senior citizens, helping to facilitate a safe, fun, and inclusive environment conducive to physical activity and social interaction.

This position offers an hourly wage range between $13.13 to $14.49, commensurate with experience, and is seasonal and part-time, providing flexibility for candidates seeking supplemental income or experience in recreation management. The primary responsibility of this role is to maintain the safety, order, and cleanliness of various recreational environments as well as supervise activities ensuring patrons follow facility rules and behave appropriately. The position involves coordinating equipment setup for activities and events, monitoring fields and courts, managing registrations, and ensuring that facilities are in excellent condition both functionally and aesthetically. Employees are expected to act as positive role models to campers and users, communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders including campers, players, coaches, parents, and administration, and assist with special projects within the Recreation Department.

Given the nature of the role, candidates must be prepared to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, often during city school breaks. Duties require staff to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate environments affected by dust, noise, dirt, and the use of chemicals. Physical capabilities such as lifting up to 30 pounds, prolonged periods of standing or sitting, and the ability to operate various pieces of equipment are essential. Candidates must also hold a valid driver's license and maintain a strong driving record due to insurance requirements. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, or candidates should be at least entering the 11th grade, alongside a solid work history and dependability. Experience working with the general public and children is highly advantageous, and prior exposure to recreation or educational fields is preferred though not mandatory.

This role is ideal for individuals passionate about community service, those looking to gain experience in recreational leadership, or individuals who enjoy working in dynamic environments with diverse populations. Employees will be integral in fostering safe, engaging, and well-organized activities that contribute to the wellbeing of the community’s seniors and other residents. While the position is temporary and does not include benefits or leave time, it provides substantial opportunities for personal growth, interpersonal skill development, and community involvement. Madison Senior Center invites applicants who demonstrate initiative, responsibility, and a genuine interest in community recreation and senior services to apply for this rewarding seasonal opportunity.
