This seasonal position, titled Porter, is a vital role within the Events and Catering team, designed to support the logistical and operational needs that ensure successful event execution. Classified as a non-exempt, hourly role, the position offers competitive pay ranging from $17.00 to $20.00 per hour. Ideal candidates must be highly driven individuals who maintain a positive attitude while working in a fast-paced environment and can perform multiple tasks efficiently. The role is seasonal, typically running from March through December, with a flexible work schedule accommodating 2 to 5 days per week. The schedule requires availability during non-standard hours including mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends, with start times as early as 6:00 a.m. and occasionally extending into the early morning hours around 4:00 a.m. The workload can be physically demanding, sometimes requiring shifts of 10 hours or longer.
The primary responsibilities of the Events and Catering Porter revolve around supporting the set-up, breakdown, and cleaning activities of events in accordance with the customizations specified on the Banquet Event Order. This includes gathering, transporting, setting up, breaking down, and properly storing event equipment needed for each event such as tables, chairs, dancefloor, linens, food service equipment, china, and glassware. Effective coordination, multitasking, and working efficiently under pressure are essential as the porter assists both the catering events and culinary teams. Additional tasks include loading and unloading supplies safely, filling pull sheets to gather necessary equipment, bussing tables, running food, clearing and replenishing food items during events, and maintaining sanitation in the event areas.
The role also requires operating light groundskeeping equipment such as leaf blowers and pressure washers to maintain the cleanliness of the venue. It encompasses deep cleaning duties including equipment, walls, floors, vents, ceilings, and vehicles to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and organization are consistently met. The porter must also assist in inventorying, cleaning, and organizing equipment while ensuring safe storage and sanitation practices are followed rigorously. At the conclusion of events, the porter is responsible for the complete breakdown of equipment and returning all items to storage correctly, making certain the event space is left clean and orderly.
Aside from the physical demands and operational duties, the role fosters a team-oriented environment where collaboration with event managers, assistant managers, culinary teams, and other staff members is crucial for seamless event production. The porter is expected to perform other related duties as assigned by management, maintaining flexibility in their role to support the team's objectives effectively. This position offers those who thrive in energetic, fast-paced settings an opportunity to contribute tangibly to the success of diverse and memorable events while gaining valuable experience in event services and hospitality operations.
