Job Description

The Seasonal Pastry Chef Instructor role is a vital part of Sur La Table's culinary team, where you will serve as an in-store expert specializing in baking and pastry arts. This position involves delivering engaging and inspiring pastry classes that showcase your technical expertise, creativity, and passion for baking. Your participation directly supports the brand’s mission by igniting enthusiasm for baking among customers, providing hands-on education, and ultimately driving sales of essential baking equipment. You will be responsible for creating memorable culinary experiences that align with Sur La Table’s brand values and commitment to quality. The role requires the ability to maintain a positive and educational atmosphere, fostering customer engagement and satisfaction through consistent, high-quality instruction. Additionally, this position demands collaboration with store teams to assist with class preparation, breakdown, and day-to-day store support. You will ensure adherence to food safety standards and local health regulations, maintaining a safe and efficient kitchen environment throughout sessions. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, active engagement with participants, and lifting equipment or materials up to 50 lbs. Flexibility in working hours is required, including the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Ideal candidates will hold a culinary arts degree or equivalent experience, possess a valid Food Manager Certification, and bring 1 to 2 years of kitchen operations experience. Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for sharing culinary knowledge are essential. This is a seasonal position that plays a key role in enhancing Sur La Table's culinary programming and customer service excellence, contributing to the overall success of the brand’s culinary education initiatives and retail sales.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with customers and team members
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods and engage actively with class participants
  • Ability to perform kitchen tasks and lift items up to 50 lbs safely
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Degree in culinary arts preferred
  • Extensive culinary experience and technical proficiency will also be considered
  • 1-2 years of experience in kitchen operations
  • Valid Food Manager Certification
  • Strong communication skills
  • Passion for engaging customers in the culinary experience

  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards, local health regulations, and effective inventory management to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
