Job Description
Portland Thorns FC, founded in 2012, is a leading professional women's soccer team based in Portland, Oregon. Since its inaugural season in 2013, the club has set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer. The Portland Thorns have become one of the most supported women’s soccer clubs globally, consistently leading the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in attendance for eight consecutive seasons. The club’s home matches at Providence Park attract passionate fans, with a record-setting crowd of 25,218 supporters attending the 2023 semifinal match. Portland Thorns are known not only for their vibrant fan base but also for their exceptional achievements on the field. The team has won the NWSL Championship three times (2013, 2017, 2022), the most in the league’s history, and finished as runners-up in 2018. Additionally, the club has made postseason appearances a league-high nine times and has earned the NWSL Shield twice, in 2016 and 2021.

The role of Fan Development Coordinator is a seasonal, part-time position offering up to 29 hours per week. This role is pivotal in supporting and executing the Portland Thorns’ fan engagement initiatives. The Coordinator will play an essential role in managing the day-to-day operations of street team deployments, grassroots activations, watch party events, and matchday fan engagement programming. This position requires an energetic, organized, and passionate individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is excited about building authentic local relationships through the power of soccer.
Key responsibilities of the Fan Development Coordinator include overseeing street team activations at various events, managing the distribution of materials and call sheets, and ensuring smooth execution of matchday engagement tactics. The role involves logistical tasks such as preparing and transporting matchday activation kits, assisting with credentialing for local partners, supporting watch party and bar network activations, and participating in grassroots event presence throughout the season. The Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating fan acquisition efforts and data management, driving first-time attendance through ticket programs and promotions.
Candidates should have experience and interest in sports marketing, fan engagement, event coordination, and outreach with a focus on diverse and multicultural audiences. Familiarity with soccer culture and the NWSL is highly desirable. The ideal applicant will be a reliable team player with strong organizational skills, an operational mindset, and a commitment to inclusivity and collaborative work. This role operates predominantly during non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays due to match and event schedules. Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are considered a plus but are not required.

Job Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older at time of hire
- Ability to work up to 29 hours per week seasonally
- Experience in sports marketing fan engagement event coordination or grassroots outreach
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work non-standard hours including nights weekends and holidays
- Passion for soccer and understanding of soccer culture
- Reliable and proactive work ethic

Job Qualifications
- Experience in sports marketing fan engagement event coordination or grassroots outreach with a focus on diverse audiences
- Genuine interest in and understanding of multicultural audiences including traditions trends and fandom
- Demonstrated ability to support and execute local events and matchday activations with strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Familiarity with soccer culture and the NWSL is highly desirable
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks timesheets logistics and ROS documentation simultaneously
- Experience working as part of a team across departments including marketing communications and operations
- Shows up on time follows through on commitments and takes initiative without being asked

- Ability to work non-standard hours including nights weekends and holidays as needed for matches and local events

Job Duties
- Serve as on-site lead coordinator at events overseeing execution of street team activations
- Distribute call sheets ahead of each match and event
- Prepare and transport match-day activation kits
- Oversee matchday responsibilities for Street Team members including ingress giveaway distribution concourse tabling and fan engagement zones
- Serve as on-site lead for Street Team matchday activations
- Assist with match-by-match credentialing for local partners and activation vendors including collecting required information and headshots
- Distribute bar network activation kits including signage pennants coasters and promotional materials
- Staff watch party events with Street Team members
- Manage on-site logistics including setup staffing materials and breakdown
- Support Thorns presence at local events festivals and cultural celebrations throughout the season
- Assist with event logistics including booth setup staffing materials giveaways and lead capture
- Serve as on-site lead for Thorns activations at third-party events
- Coordinate data collection efforts at events watch parties and street activations
- Support ticket programs and promotional code distribution to drive first-time attendance
