Job Description
The Resort at Pelican Hill, located in Newport Beach, California, is a prestigious luxury hospitality destination renowned for its exceptional service and stunning ocean views. It forms part of the renowned St. Regis Hotels & Resorts collection, which is celebrated globally for its commitment to timeless glamour, superior guest experiences, and bespoke service. Owned and managed by Marriott International, one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, the resort offers guests an unforgettable retreat with top-tier amenities, exquisite dining options, and a commitment to quality and excellence. Marriott International fosters an inclusive, diverse work culture that values every associate’s unique background, promotes equal employment opportunities, and emphasizes personal and professional growth.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and personable Room Service Order Taker to join our Food and Beverage team at The Resort at Pelican Hill. This full-time, non-management position offers an hourly wage of $16.90 and includes tip eligibility, providing an excellent opportunity for those who want to engage with guests and contribute to their dining experience from afar. The Room Service Order Taker plays a vital role in ensuring guests receive timely, accurate, and delightful in-room dining service, enhancing their overall stay at the resort.
As a Room Service Order Taker, you will be the first point of contact for guests placing room service orders via telephone. Your responsibilities will include answering questions about menu selections and collaborating closely with the kitchen staff to verify availability and prepare special requests. You will be expected to provide knowledgeable responses regarding our wine selection, including details about origins, vintages, and styles, thereby enriching the guest experience.
Your role involves meticulous order processing through the MICROS system, logging each transaction accurately, and managing payments efficiently. You will communicate effectively with guests about their orders, notify them and management of any delays in service delivery, and liaise with kitchen staff to ensure dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests are clearly conveyed and fulfilled. Maintaining cleanliness in your work area is essential to uphold the high hygiene standards synonymous with our brand.
Safety and security are paramount at Pelican Hill, and you will be responsible for adhering to all company policies and safety procedures, reporting any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions promptly. Professionalism in personal appearance and uniform standards is expected at all times, and confidentiality regarding company information is maintained stringently.
Engagement with guests goes beyond order taking; you are expected to welcome each guest warmly, anticipate their needs, provide assistance when necessary, including to individuals with disabilities, and express genuine appreciation for their patronage. Effective communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette and clear language, are critical for success in this role. Team collaboration is encouraged, fostering positive working relationships to achieve common goals and maintain the resort’s quality standards.
This position requires physical stamina to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods and the ability to handle objects weighing up to 10 pounds without assistance. Additional reasonable duties may be assigned by supervisors to support the overall operation of the Food and Beverage department.
Ideal candidates should hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, no prior related work experience or supervisory experience is necessary. This role provides an excellent pathway into the hospitality industry where you can build skills, gain experience, and grow your career within Marriott International’s extensive global footprint. Joining The Resort at Pelican Hill means becoming part of a team that values service excellence, cultural diversity, and the professional development of its associates. If you are passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences and eager to join a renowned luxury resort, we invite you to apply and embark on a rewarding career journey with us.
