Job Description
The Wine Group is a leading global producer and marketer of quality wines, offering a portfolio of popular wine brands and a commitment to excellence in winemaking. Known for its extensive operations spanning vineyards, winemaking, and distribution, The Wine Group provides robust opportunities for professionals interested in the wine industry to grow and develop within a dynamic environment. This company prides itself on fostering inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability throughout its processes, delivering products enjoyed by consumers worldwide. The Wine Group aims to combine traditional winemaking techniques with modern technologies to maintain the rich heritage of wine production while adapting to evolving market demands and consumer preferences.
The Seasonal Lab Technician role at The Wine Group is a vital position within their quality services team, specifically designed for the "Crush" season, which occurs approximately from July through October or November. This seasonal role offers an hourly wage of $21.00 and entails working predominantly daytime shifts from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with a requirement for flexibility to work any day of the week, including weekends. There is also an additional stay pay bonus for those who commit to the entire harvest season, rewarding dedication and consistency during this crucial period.
In this role, the Seasonal Lab Technician is responsible for conducting both routine and non-routine chemical and physical analyses essential for quality control, research, and development. The technician evaluates raw ingredients, products, and processes to ensure all parameters meet the company’s high standards. The lab environment revolves around performing detailed analyses related to grape maturity, juice composition (both white and red), fermentation tracking, press analysis, and overseeing wine blending and shipping assessments. The technician will assist in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting analytical data, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results that directly impact production decisions.
The position requires proficiency in operating and maintaining various laboratory instruments such as refractometers, turbidity meters, pH meters, Fluoride Meters, and Alcolyzer/DMA analyzers amongst others. Troubleshooting skills are mandatory to address any discrepancies or malfunctions in equipment, protecting the integrity of analytical outcomes. The Seasonal Lab Technician must also be adept in the preparation and application of standardized chemical solutions within the lab, alongside performing instrument calibration and maintenance to uphold optimum operational conditions. Monthly data reporting on wine inventories and detailed sample collection from storage tanks are integral responsibilities, providing vital insights for production teams.
The job emphasizes adherence to rigorous laboratory housekeeping standards and encourages cross-functional support, including relieving sugar stand employees during lunch and break periods. Candidates should expect to perform physically demanding duties like lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and working in environments that combine indoor laboratory space with outdoor production areas exposed to varying noise levels and equipment. The role demands a flexible, detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, capable of communicating effectively at all management levels. The Wine Group values punctuality, teamwork, safety compliance, and the ability to prioritize tasks independently within established guidelines.
This Seasonal Lab Technician opportunity is well-suited for individuals with a background or interest in enology, chemistry, food science, or related fields who seek hands-on experience and the chance to develop professionally in a renowned and supportive company. The Wine Group provides on-the-job training, making prior winery experience desirable but not mandatory, thereby welcoming candidates eager to learn and contribute during the vital harvest season.
