The role open for application is centered on food preparation and kitchen operations within the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. This position involves preparing special meals and substitute items, managing cooking equipment temperatures, thawing foods appropriately, ensuring proper portion sizes, plating, and garnishing food items attractively while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation. Attention to detail is critical in pulling food from freezer storage to thaw in the refrigerator, monitoring food quantity and quality, and keeping accurate food logs to maintain inventory and reduce waste. Communication skills are essential in this role, as the employee will coordinate with chefs regarding excess food items for daily specials and inform food and beverage staff about menu specials and unavailable items.
In addition to food preparation, this role requires assistance with management tasks including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, motivating, and coaching employees. The individual acts as a role model within the kitchen environment, upholding all company policies and safety and security procedures. Reporting maintenance needs, incidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions promptly ensures the safety of all staff and guests. The candidate will be expected to complete all necessary safety training and certifications, maintain a professional appearance and confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets conscientiously.
The position demands physical stamina and agility; the employee must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods and perform movements such as bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. The ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance is necessary. Supporting teamwork, listening and responding appropriately to employee concerns, and maintaining positive working relationships contribute to a collaborative and productive kitchen atmosphere. The role also involves providing excellent guest service by anticipating and addressing needs professionally and clearly communicating with all team members and guests.
Candidates for this position ideally hold a technical, trade, or vocational school degree and possess at least three years of relevant work experience in food preparation or related fields. Although supervisory experience is not required, the role includes elements of assisting in managerial functions and may offer opportunities for professional growth in leadership.
