Job Description

Northern Illinois Food Bank is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger in Northern Illinois. As one of the largest and most respected food banks in the region, they work tirelessly to provide nutritious meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Through partnerships with local agencies, community organizations, and volunteers, they distribute food to those in need and rapidly respond to hunger-related challenges in the community. Their work not only addresses immediate food needs but also supports long-term solutions to combat hunger, improve nutrition, and enhance health outcomes for the population they serve.

Northern Illinois Food Bank prides itself on fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment, valuing diverse perspectives and continuous growth. Their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is central to their mission, reinforcing their dedication to anti-racism, gender equity, and fairness. The organization embraces opportunities to stand in solidarity with communities affected by systemic injustices and strives to create a hunger-free and more just world.

The Seasonal Class D Driver position is a vital role within Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a USDA-supported initiative aimed at ensuring children in underserved communities receive nutritious meals during the summer months when school is out. This seasonal, part-time role generally involves working 20-30 hours weekly, Monday through Friday with early morning starts, from May 26 through August 15, 2026, based at the West Suburban Center in Geneva. The pay rate for this position is $18.40 per hour.

In this role, the Seasonal Class D Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation and delivery of meals to designated youth sites. Duties include loading and unloading food while following strict food safety protocols, maintaining accurate meal count coordination with site staff, and providing courteous and professional customer service to program participants and partners. Additionally, the driver ensures that delivery vehicles are maintained in clean condition, fueled, and compliant with all Department of Transportation regulations.

This position demands a high level of responsibility, reliability, and strong communication skills, as the driver serves as a key front-line representative of Northern Illinois Food Bank’s mission. Adherence to safety guidelines, timely reporting of vehicle maintenance needs, and collaboration with warehouse and transportation teams are also important components of the role. The position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to alleviating childhood hunger in the Northern Illinois region while working within a supportive and mission-driven organizational culture.

Joining Northern Illinois Food Bank as a Seasonal Class D Driver means becoming part of a dedicated team that values your contributions and supports your professional growth. Employees are encouraged to engage in professional development opportunities and career advancement pathways. The organization prioritizes work-life balance and fosters a flexible work environment. Overall, this role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in their communities and who are motivated to work collaboratively toward ending hunger in Northern Illinois.
