As a Seasonal Chef Instructor, Savory at Sur La Table, you will be an in-store expert, serving as a vital advocate for savory cooking techniques and culinary arts. This position is instrumental in delivering #bestincenter service, a company-wide standard representing excellence in customer interaction and instructional delivery. The role involves sharing specialized knowledge in culinary fundamentals and savory cooking skills with both novice and experienced cooks, providing personalized instruction that aligns with all company initiatives. You will inspire customers by demonstrating passion, skill, and enthusiasm, making cooking classes not only educational but also enjoyable and accessible.

This role plays a key part in driving sales of cookware, cutlery, and kitchen tools through hands-on savory cooking classes. You will engage customers directly, helping them develop confidence and skills in savory cuisine while boosting the company's retail sales through thoughtful recommendations of products featured or used during your classes. Beyond instruction, being a Seasonal Chef Instructor involves operational duties like setting up for classes, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, handling inventory responsibly, and supporting the store’s overall readiness.

The position requires flexibility, as it includes working between 12 and 16 hours per week, with availability during nights, weekends, and holidays. Success in this role is measured by key performance indicators such as second-class sign-ups, retail culinary product sales, and positive guest feedback. Job Requirements

  • must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment
  • degree in culinary arts preferred but not required
  • 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience
  • valid Food Manager Certification
  • excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

Job Duties

  • represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty
  • deliver exceptional in-store culinary experiences focused on savory cooking classes following provided recipes and game plans
  • communicate technical cooking concepts and savory techniques clearly and encouragingly
  • maintain expertise by staying current on products and engaging in training
  • drive sales by upholding kitchen standards and promoting retail items used in class
  • deliver class revenue goals by ensuring high enrollment and positive guest feedback
  • assist in setup, breakdown, and cleaning of classes
  • clean and sanitize dishes and equipment promptly
  • assist with restocking and maintaining kitchen supplies
  • ensure compliance with food safety standards and sanitation regulations
  • properly handle tools and kitchen equipment to maintain safety
  • maintain accurate inventory levels and control expenses
  • handle liquor, wine, and beer in compliance with regulations
  • ensure store safety and cleanliness
  • adhere to wage and hour laws and record time accurately
