The role of Breakfast Cook at Higgins Beach Inn is a dynamic and integral position responsible for supporting the culinary team during breakfast service. This seasonal role runs from May through October, with a start date of May 11th, 2026. The position offers both part-time and full-time hours, with compensation ranging from $18 to $26 per hour plus a seasonal year-end bonus. As Breakfast Cook, the successful candidate will take ownership of breakfast service, ensuring dishes meet the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and presentation. This involves preparing and cooking food accurately according to recipes while managing their station's setup and breakdown each day. The Breakfast Cook operates various kitchen equipment such as gas stoves, griddles, fryers, and tools like knives, immersion blenders, and food processors. Ensuring food safety and sanitation compliance is a critical part of the role, along with minimizing waste and adhering to portion control.
In addition to cooking duties, the Breakfast Cook will liaise with the Executive Chef and Purchase Manager to maintain inventory and ingredient freshness. They need to be organized, maintain cleanliness and work efficiently under pressure while treating colleagues with respect and fairness. The role also requires awareness of dietary restrictions and allergens, as well as an understanding of culturally diverse seasonings and substitutes. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and to remain mobile and dexterous throughout shifts in a busy kitchen.

Job Requirements
- 1 to 2 years of experience as a breakfast cook in full service hotel
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to understand verbal directions, menu details, labels on chemicals, and workplace safety signage
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines during busy periods
- Frequent walking, bending, balancing, stooping, reaching, pushing, lifting, manual dexterity and repetitive motions
- Occasional stair climbing
- Schedule varies with operational needs including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Awareness of hazards such as knife injuries, lifting injuries, slips, and tripping
Job Qualifications
- Previous culinary experience as a breakfast cook
- Ability to communicate in English both orally and written
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Understanding of menu details and workplace safety signage
- Knowledge of food handling and sanitation standards
- Experience with kitchen equipment such as gas stoves, griddles, and fryers
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with basic cooking techniques and portion control
- Understanding of common food allergens and substitutes
- Ability to follow recipes and plating guidelines
- Basic knowledge of health and safety policies in food service
Job Duties
- Take control of the breakfast service and ensure guests receive a truly delicious and memorable experience
- Cooking and managing breakfast service and assisting with dinner service preparation
- Setting up and breaking down after the breakfast service
- Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and hygienic at all times
- Must have a strong sense of organization and unwavering standards for quality and cleanliness
- Complete all daily responsibilities/cleaning task list
- Completes all department checklists
- Minimizes waste of product
- Recognize and follow quality standards in regard to meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy products and grains, including proper storage of these items according to health standards
- An understanding of seasonings for a range of culturally diverse foods is helpful, as is knowledge of common food allergens, intolerances and their substitutes
- Ensure all mise-en-place is always freshly prepared, rotated and on time
- Ensure all dishes are being prepared to the correct recipe and to the correct quantity
- Ensure any anticipated issues are communicated promptly to the Executive Chef
- Ensure all staff under your control are treated fairly and with courtesy
- Collect feedback from the guest during the breakfast session and report to Executive Chef on any complaints or issues
- Liaise with Purchase Manager regarding daily raw materials for breakfast
- Adhere to Health & Safety policies and regulations
- Able to handle pressure calmly and professionally
- Understand personal sanitation, the use of personal protective equipment and be aware of ways to prevent personal injury from improper reaching, lifting, stretching and carrying
- Manually handle/lift/carry product up to 30 pounds between knee and shoulders
- Must have bilateral fine manipulation of both hands, which may be repetitive for entire shift
- Must be vertically mobile working in limited space for entire shift
