The Seafood Team Member role at Whole Foods Market is an entry-level position integral to maintaining the quality and appeal of the seafood department. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including counter service, stocking, sanitation, and merchandising. A Team Member in this role ensures the freshness and attractiveness of seafood displays by checking product quality, rotating stock, and discarding out-of-date items. They help maintain cleanliness around the department by regularly cleaning cases, glass, floors, and equipment. Additionally, this role includes preparing fish by skinning, boning, cooking or smoking, and labeling the products accurately.

Besides managing the physical aspects of the seafood department, the role is deeply customer-facing. A Team Member provides excellent service by addressing customer needs promptly and effectively, suggesting products through good selling techniques, and contributing to an overall positive shopping experience. They also assist with inventory checks, maintain accurate department signage and pricing, and comply fully with regulatory health and safety requirements including food safety protocols.

The position demands strong communication skills, teamwork, and a proactive approach to selling and learning about the products carried in the department. Whole Foods Market offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $17.00 to $25.40, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits program called Whole Benefits. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing and walking for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day

Job Duties

  • Ensures a fresh and appealing display by checking quality, keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked, rotating and removing out-of-date products, filling ice tables, and performing other duties as assigned
  • maintains accurate department signage and pricing
  • maintains back stock in good order
  • maintains a safe, clean and well-organized working and shopping environment
  • assists with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean and appealing
  • cleans cases, glass, signs, uprights, coolers, smokers, floors, and drains as required
  • skins, bones, and cooks or smokes fish
  • boxes up, labels, and dates cooked fish
  • assists with periodic inventory checks
  • arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
  • maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • follows and complies with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • maintains equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
  • immediately reports safety hazards and violations
