The role of Seafood Lead at Walt Churchill's Market is a vital position within the Maumee location, reporting directly to the Deli Manager. This full-time role focuses on overseeing the Seafood Department's overall success, ensuring fresh and frozen seafood cases are impeccably maintained while upholding stringent health and safety standards. The Seafood Lead manages product life cycles, ensuring optimal freshness to maximize sales and customer satisfaction. This role involves significant responsibility for inventory management, ordering from vendors, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment. The Seafood Lead not only supervises the daily operations of the seafood department but also contributes creatively by developing innovative seafood recipes for deli cases, the Seafood Café, and soups. These culinary creations include a variety of scratch-made seafood items such as salmon patties, chili lime shrimp, crab cakes, and cod cakes, guaranteeing quality and consistency through adherence to in-store recipes.

In addition to culinary duties, the Seafood Lead is entrusted with important business functions including cost control, production oversight, and inventory tracking to optimize department profitability. This individual also takes charge of leading quarterly inventory processes and strategically merchandises seafood products to meet customer demand and promote sales growth. Job Requirements

  • Management experience in a seafood, deli, restaurant, or grocery setting
  • seafood and/or cooking experience and general knowledge
  • great multitasking, organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
  • attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
  • leadership, sales, and merchandising skills
  • must be available to work a variety of shifts and/or days of the week consistent with the demands of the retail environment which includes weekends, evenings and other high activity periods
  • high school diploma/GED
  • ServSafe/food safety certification, or willingness to obtain
  • moderate computer skills, including email, Excel, Word, and online ordering systems
  • knowledge of seafood and other specialty deli foods, preferred
  • culinary education (classes, certification, or degree), preferred
  • must be able to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds
  • prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, and reaching
  • occasional instances of pushing, pulling, and squatting

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide exceptional customer service in all areas and uphold the same standards for all Deli and Seafood staff
  • work with various vendors to order seafood, maintaining a fresh and well-stocked department
  • oversee and manage cost, quality, production control, and timing of all scratch-made seafood products in the Deli case and Seafood Café case
  • maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department
  • ensure proper rotation of all department products
  • develop innovative, seafood-focused recipes for the Deli case, Seafood Café case, and Seafood soups
  • production of seafood items includes salmon patties, chili lime shrimp, crab cakes, cod cakes
  • follow in-store recipes to ensure quality and consistency of seafood products
  • work with the Deli Manager in controlling production numbers and costs, including ordering product, tracking shrink, managing inventory, and optimizing products
  • responsible for leading the department’s Quarterly Inventory
  • customer service management, including properly handling customer issues and using problem-solving skills to ensure all WCM customers have an excellent experience
  • strategically merchandise and track sales to meet customer demand and increase profits
  • passion for working with and cooking seafood items
  • participate in or lead special events and holidays, such as Seafood Roadshows, the Holiday Food and Wine Show, etc.
  • ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards mandated by government regulations
  • maintain and clean all seafood equipment
  • maintain timely email, phone, and in-person communication with vendors, customers, and co-workers
  • participate in meetings with vendors and department managers
  • expanded deli production duties as assigned
