Job Description

The hiring organization is a Child Nutrition Services department within a school district, dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious meals to students through well-managed food service operations. This department operates Bulk Satellite kitchens, which play a critical role in the preparation, heating, and serving of meals that meet strict district nutritional guidelines and sanitary standards. This role is pivotal to the success of the Child Nutrition Services program as it directly affects the quality and delivery of meals in a school environment.

The position being offered is for a Bulk Satellite Kitchen Supervisor. Reporting to the Child Nutrition Services Director or a designated supervisor, the person in this role will be charged with the responsibility of heating and serving nutritious meals in compliance with established menu plans and district requirements. The role demands proficiency in food preparation techniques along with strong leadership abilities to manage staff and student helpers effectively. It also involves administrative responsibilities such as maintaining accurate records, completing reports on meal counts, inventory, payroll, and cash handling, as well as ordering meals and supplies efficiently to minimize waste. The Bulk Satellite Kitchen Supervisor ensures that all operations comply with food safety and sanitation procedures, promotes nutrition education among students and staff, and fosters a cooperative working environment.

In this role, the supervisor will implement training programs, conduct performance evaluations, and monitor the work of regular staff and student workers. They will be expected to maintain the kitchen and its equipment in safe and clean conditions, address complaints and suggestions from students and school personnel, and support efforts to increase meal participation within the school. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods and occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds, emphasizing the need for stamina and physical readiness. The role requires excellent communication skills to handle interactions in sometimes challenging situations and necessitates flexibility and adaptability to manage shifting priorities and interruptions.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve attractive, high quality, nutritious, cost effective meals following menu planners meeting District requirements
  • insure that all student helpers and staff comply with proper food handling techniques and follow safety and sanitation procedures
  • develop, prepare and post work schedules and diagram of serving area for program continuity and to assure that tasks are complete within the time allocated
  • maintain accurate records and complete necessary reports including meal count, cash count, tickets, menu planners, orders, delivery, payroll, inventory and other reports needed according to District procedures either manually or by computer
  • maintain and schedule cleaning of kitchen and storeroom as well as kitchen equipment including tables and chairs
  • report equipment malfunctions to insure safe working conditions
  • order appropriate number of meals from central kitchen and adjust meal count as needed to utilize all food ordered
  • maintain appropriate stock of food and supplies
  • rotate and reorder as needed
  • establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others
  • assist school staff in promoting proper nutrition
  • respond to suggestions, complaints and requests of building staff and students
  • report all accidents promptly to Child Nutrition Services office
  • train and supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations
  • train, monitor and evaluate student workers, substitutes and assigned staff
  • promote Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation
  • check and secure kitchen and dining area at the end of the shift
  • perform related duties as assigned
