In addition to academic programs, MPS dedicates significant resources to child nutrition services, recognizing the critical role that proper nutrition plays in student success and overall health. The Child Nutrition Program within MPS is designed to ensure that students have access to nutritious, appealing, and balanced meals throughout the school day, adhering strictly to federal, state, and local regulations. This commitment to student wellness is supported by dedicated staff who manage and operate the foodservice programs in each school.
The role of the School Kitchen Manager at Milwaukee Public Schools is central to the operation and success of the school foodservice program. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food production and service in an assigned school, ensuring that meals served meet high-quality standards while complying with the regulations of the Child Nutrition Program. The School Kitchen Manager plays a vital role in encouraging maximum student participation in the school meals program by maintaining an inviting and efficient foodservice environment. This full-time role offers a competitive salary range of $19.63 to $26.11 per hour and does not require working nights, weekends, or holidays, which is highly attractive to candidates seeking a stable schedule.
In this position, the School Kitchen Manager will actively engage in supervising daily food preparation and service, guaranteeing the delivery of nutritious meals that meet both quality and quantity standards. The manager supervises food service assistants and trainees, providing training, work scheduling, and performance evaluations. A strong emphasis on customer service and effective communication is essential in this role, which also involves attending mandatory meetings and training sessions. By joining Milwaukee Public Schools, the School Kitchen Manager supports the strategic plan of the district aimed at fostering a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive environment for students and staff alike. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of children in the public education system through expert foodservice management.
