Job Description

The Child Nutrition Services department is dedicated to providing nutritious, wholesome meals to students in a safe and efficient manner. This department operates within a school district setting, focusing on delivering high-quality food service to support student health and academic success. The district prioritizes food safety, sanitation, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those stipulated by the National School Lunch Program. The role of the Bulk Satellite Kitchen Worker is crucial in accomplishing the mission of the Child Nutrition Services. The individual in this role works under the general direction of the Child Nutrition Services Director or designated supervisor. Responsibilities include preparing meals that adhere to approved menus, managing food safety practices, and ensuring cost-effectiveness in food preparation. This role requires the ability to oversee student helpers and staff, making certain that everyone follows proper food handling and safety procedures. The Bulk Satellite Kitchen Worker also plays a key administrative role by maintaining accurate records such as meal counts, payroll, inventory, and cash management. The position requires developing work schedules and maintaining the operating environment, including cleaning and equipment maintenance, to promote efficiency and safety.

Additionally, this job entails collaborating with school staff to promote healthy nutrition habits and responding promptly to any concerns or feedback received from students, staff, or the public. Training and supervising kitchen staff and student workers is an essential function, along with evaluating their performance to ensure high standards are maintained. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in food preparation or bulk kitchen operations preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve attractive high quality nutritious cost effective meals following menu planners
  • insure that all student helpers and staff comply with proper food handling techniques and follow safety and sanitation procedures
  • develop prepare and post work schedules and diagram of serving area for program continuity and to assure that tasks are complete within the time allocated
  • maintain accurate records and complete necessary reports including meal count cash count tickets menu planners orders delivery payroll inventory and other reports needed according to District procedures either manually or by computer
  • maintain and schedule cleaning of kitchen and storeroom as well as kitchen equipment including tables and chairs
  • report equipment malfunctions to insure safe working conditions
  • order appropriate number of meals from central kitchen and adjust meal count as needed to utilize all food ordered
  • maintain appropriate stock of food and supplies rotate and reorder as needed
  • establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others
  • assist school staff in promoting proper nutrition
  • respond to suggestions complaints and requests of building staff and students
  • report all accidents promptly to Child Nutrition Services office
  • train and supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations
  • train monitor and evaluate student workers substitutes and assigned staff
  • promote Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation
  • check and secure kitchen and dining area at the end of the shift
  • perform related duties as assigned
