Job Description

The role offered is a skilled Cook or Baker position within the Child Nutrition Services team, reporting to the Kitchen Manager or their designee. This position is responsible for the preparation and service of attractive, nutritious meals that meet the district's quality standards. The individual will perform tasks that include cooking or baking following standardized recipes, preparing meals on time, and assisting with cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment and the facility. This role may involve leadership responsibilities, such as directing or assisting other staff members during meal preparation, responding to on-the-job training needs, or adapting operations during emergencies. Additionally, the Cook or Baker will help maintain accurate daily records, manage food inventory, and support meal payment and accounting processes. The position requires someone who is flexible, adaptable, and able to communicate effectively with students, staff, and coworkers, even in challenging situations. Physical demands include prolonged standing and walking, handling up to 25 pounds, and performing repetitive and varied kitchen tasks. The individual must adhere strictly to safety and sanitation protocols and contribute actively to the promotion of Child Nutrition Services programs that encourage meal participation and nutritional awareness within the school community.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Ability to carry, push, stoop, reach and perform fingering functions
- Experience working in a kitchen or food preparation environment preferred
- Ability to handle repetitive tasks
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and listening skills
- Normal far vision, depth perception and color vision
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous cooking or baking experience preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and menu planners

Job Duties
- Prepare and serve attractive, high quality, nutritious, cost effective meals following standardized procedures
- Assist in the cleaning of kitchen, equipment, tables and storeroom as scheduled
- Report equipment malfunctions to ensure safe working conditions
- Assist in maintaining appropriate food and supply inventories
- Direct or assist unit employees in meal preparation tasks as necessary
- Maintain required daily records and reports and submit to Kitchen Manager
- Collect money and account for meals served according to established procedures
