Job Description
Our esteemed institution is a dedicated educational facility committed to providing nutritious and appealing meal options to support the well-being and academic performance of students. As part of the Child Nutrition Services program, our school cafeteria operates with the primary goal of delivering high-quality, cost-effective meals that meet established nutritional standards. We recognize the vital role that food services play in fostering a healthy learning environment and are proud to maintain a cafeteria that upholds the highest standards of safety, sanitation, and culinary excellence.
We are currently seeking a skilled Cook/Baker to join our team under the direction of the Kitchen Manager or their designee. This role is essential in advancing our mission to ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals prepared with care and expertise. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving attractive and high-quality meals according to standardized procedures and menu planners. By adhering to district standards, the Cook/Baker will contribute to a cost-effective operation while promoting healthy eating habits among students.
The Cook/Baker will be tasked with a variety of duties that range from meal preparation and cooking or baking, to assisting in maintaining kitchen cleanliness and equipment. Attention to detail, time management, and compliance with safety and sanitation procedures are paramount in this role. The position may also involve supervising and directing assigned staff during meal preparation and service, particularly in situations requiring on-the-job training or emergency meal preparation.
This role demands flexibility, adaptability, and excellent communication skills, including the ability to interact with both students and adults appropriately, even in challenging situations. The Cook/Baker will also manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies are on hand while minimizing waste. Additionally, the position involves recording and reporting daily meal counts and financial transactions related to meal service, thus supporting the smooth operation and administrative requirements of the cafeteria.
Working conditions for this position require standing and walking for prolonged periods, the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and performing various physical tasks such as carrying, pushing, stooping, reaching, and fine motor activities. The environment necessitates handling general cleaning chemicals safely and maintaining a cooperative spirit to forge strong working relationships within the school community.
This is an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about child nutrition and education to make a meaningful impact while working within a supportive team environment. The Cook/Baker role offers the chance to develop culinary skills in a structured setting that emphasizes nutrition, safety, and service excellence. We encourage candidates who bring dedication, initiative, and a commitment to promoting proper nutrition to apply and join our mission to enhance the healthful eating experiences of students.
