Job Description

ABM is a global leader in facility services and solutions, with a rich history dating back to 1909. As one of the world’s largest providers of comprehensive maintenance and support services, ABM is dedicated to creating cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments. The company serves a diverse range of industries including commercial office buildings, universities, airports, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and entertainment venues. With a workforce of over 100,000 employees and more than 350 offices across the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and other international locations, ABM is committed to excellence and innovation in facility management. ABM prioritizes safety, compliance, and quality in all of its operations, ensuring that both clients and their patrons enjoy safe and well-maintained environments.

The role of a School Custodian at ABM involves performing essential cleaning and maintenance tasks within K-12 schools, colleges, or university campuses. This position is vital to maintaining a clean, safe, and pleasant educational environment for students, faculty, and staff. The School Custodian will be responsible for cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways, ensuring all designated areas are free from debris, spills, and dirt. This involves sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing surfaces like woodwork and stainless steel, emptying trash receptacles, and properly sorting recycling.

In addition to routine cleaning duties, the custodian will be required to follow strict procedures when using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to flooring and fixtures. The custodian must be vigilant in noticing and reporting any maintenance issues or repairs needed to management promptly. Effective communication with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and facility managers is critical to coordinate daily tasks and maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.

The role may also include some outdoor maintenance duties such as sweeping walkways, raking leaves, cutting grass, and removing snow, dependent on seasonal requirements. Restroom cleanliness, including cleaning and polishing fixtures as needed, is a key responsibility. Compliance with all safety, security, regulatory, and company standards is mandatory to ensure a safe working environment for all.

This position is well-suited for individuals entering or re-entering the workforce, with no prior experience or formal education required. ABM provides comprehensive on-the-job training to equip employees with the skills they need for success. The company is proud to be a military and veteran-friendly employer, encouraging veterans and candidates with military experience to apply, offering them opportunities to transfer their skills to facility maintenance roles.

The School Custodian position at ABM offers a collaborative, supportive work environment, where employees can develop foundational professional skills. ABM's comprehensive benefits package supports employee wellbeing and includes health insurance, dental insurance, and paid time off. This role also offers a chance for career growth within a large, reputable company that values diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all employees. ABM actively ensures accessibility and accommodations for applicants with disabilities, providing assistance throughout the hiring process and onboarding.
