Job Description

Concordia School is a reputable educational institution committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for preschool students. Our mission focuses on fostering early childhood development through comprehensive educational programs, including nutritious meal provisions that align with federal, state, and local regulations. Concordia School strives to maintain a safe and healthy environment that promotes the well-being of both students and staff. We value teamwork, professionalism, and dedication in every member of our community, ensuring we deliver the highest quality services and support to our children.

The School Chef role at Concordia School is essential to the daily operations that directly impact the health and nutritional needs of preschool-aged children. The successful candidate will prepare and serve meals efficiently, ensuring meals meet program acceptability and nutritional standards. This position requires adherence to strict food safety and sanitation guidelines and mandates compliance with regulations set forth by licensing agencies including the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The School Chef will manage all aspects of food delivery acceptance including verifying order accuracy, properly storing stock, and maintaining safe food temperatures. Key responsibilities include timely meal preparation and service, cleanliness of kitchen and serving areas, responsible waste disposal, and preparation for subsequent service days.

In addition to the operational tasks, the School Chef maintains courteous and professional interactions with students, teachers, and staff, fostering respectful and communicative relationships across the school environment. This role also involves documenting food service activities and records as required by supervisors and being proactive in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and performance. The School Chef also mentors new staff members, sharing knowledge and promoting adherence to best practices in food service.

This is a hands-on position emphasizing multitasking ability, culinary skills, and food preparation expertise. The work environment reflects typical kitchen settings with physical demands involving light lifting and movement of objects up to 20 pounds. Concordia School values commitment to company values and expects candidates to pass background checks as part of employment criteria. Although high school diploma or the equivalent and two years of food service experience are preferred, the school is open to suitable alternatives. The role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a child's early educational experience through high-quality food service delivery and collaborative work in a dynamic preschool setting. Positions are non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions, reflecting standard compliance with labor laws.
