The role of Bus Driver within Widefield School District 3 is a vital position responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of school transportation vehicles. Bus Drivers will report directly to the Operations Manager-Transportation and Assistant Operations Manager-Transportation and are expected to complete extensive training, including Widefield School District specific training for school transportation vehicle operators and certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI).

In this role, the Bus Driver will be responsible for adhering strictly to all traffic laws and safety regulations while ensuring students arrive safely at their destinations. Daily duties include maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the assigned bus, managing student conduct per district guidelines, and performing pre-trip vehicle inspections as mandated by federal and state laws. The position requires the capability to respond effectively under pressure and adverse weather conditions while maintaining a positive and professional rapport with children, parents, and school staff. Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility are key expectations, with duties possibly including split shifts and varied schedules to accommodate extracurricular activities and other school-related events.

Job Duties

Knows and obeys all traffic laws and regulations for commercial motor vehicles and Colorado Department of Education school transportation vehicles
drives according to set standards as directed in district training and by the Operations Manager and Assistant Operations Manager-Transportation
maintains student management and enforces established procedures for proper student behavior on school transportation vehicles applying the Widefield School District #3 Student Conduct and Discipline Code
keeps assigned bus clean inside and out on a daily basis, including cleaning and dusting driver's area, picking up paper, sweeping interior floor, cleaning and checking seats, and cleaning interior/exterior windows
keeps to assigned route schedule and immediately notifies appropriate personnel if route schedule changes
performs required pre-inspection before operation of school transportation vehicle in accordance with federal and state regulations
notifies appropriate personnel in the event of vehicle mechanical failure
notifies appropriate personnel in the event of lateness to scheduled destination
picks up and discharges students only at authorized stops
exercises responsible leadership at all times
transports only authorized students and develops seating charts as required by Operations Manager-Transportation
reports all accidents and completes required reports to district personnel and other authorities as needed
executes proper school transportation vehicle evacuation of students and self, including physical maneuvering of students who need assistance as required by Colorado Department of Education
participates in in-service programs as required by the Operations Manager-Transportation and Colorado Department of Education
follows instructions regarding universal precautions for safety and health requirements as outlined during training
maintains driver's book with specific route directions, pre-trip inspection forms, mileage sheets, and seating charts
maintains assigned vehicle at appropriate maintenance standards by conducting required vehicle inspections and reporting equipment faults and scheduled services to maintenance personnel
demonstrates ability to communicate effectively, get along with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
performs other assigned tasks
