The School Baker will work a 12-month schedule, contributing to the provision of nutritious and appealing baked goods that support the school’s meal services. This role requires a high level of responsibility and proficiency in quantity baking, as the incumbent will be preparing baked items in large quantities from standardized recipes.
The School Baker coordinates closely with other food service employees to ensure that baked goods are prepared and delivered on time for meal services and satellite delivery schedules. Responsibilities include reviewing daily production records to determine recipes, securing ingredients, weighing, mixing, and preparing various baked goods including bread, rolls, buns, muffins, and more. The position also involves serving students and staff, maintaining sanitation and cleanliness standards in the kitchen and dining areas, assisting with inventory, and supervising helpers assigned to assist with baking and serving tasks.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have a minimum of one year’s specialized experience as a baker with hands-on experience producing a variety of baked goods in large quantities in institutional, restaurant, or similar settings. Substitute qualifications such as an associate degree in culinary arts with a focus on quantity baking or relevant technical school coursework may be accepted in lieu of experience. Attention to food safety, sanitation practices, and adherence to USDA training requirements are essential.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about baking and food service to contribute directly to the well-being and nutrition of students in an engaging and supportive school environment.
