Situated just a few miles from Lake Ontario in the charming "Village on the Erie Canal," SUNY Brockport enjoys a strategic location between Rochester and Buffalo, the fourth and second largest cities in New York State, respectively. The university's curriculum integrates the liberal arts and sciences with an emphasis on experiential learning, inviting students and faculty alike to engage in a dynamic and nurturing educational environment.

As an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer, SUNY Brockport welcomes talent from various backgrounds to contribute to its vibrant academic community.

The role available is for a Scene Shop Manager within the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Theatre and Music Studies. This professional full-time position offers an annual salary ranging from $57,151 to $62,866. Reporting to the Technical Director and Scenic Designer, the Scene Shop Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the university’s educational mission by assisting in the production of four theatrical shows annually, including one musical. The role encompasses three major areas of responsibility: serving as Props Coordinator, supporting the Scenic Charge with paint studio supervision, and assisting with scenery construction.

The Scene Shop Manager maintains a clean, efficient, and safe working environment in both the scene and paint shops, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and building codes. This position supervises the training and education of students participating in scenic construction classes, work study programs, and volunteer activities, preparing them for future careers in theatre. The manager collaborates closely with directors, designers, and stage managers in managing props, overseeing their creation, acquisition, repair, and storage. The position also involves coordinating general shop maintenance, inventory control, and small-scale repairs or modifications of tools and equipment.

Additional responsibilities include attending rehearsals to supervise technical operations and student crews and coordinating staffing needs for events in the Tower Fine Arts Theaters. The role contributes actively to fostering a positive departmental culture that promotes collaboration, respect, and productivity. Non-essential duties encompass participation in faculty and production meetings, ongoing facility maintenance, and committee service.

The work schedule is a standard 40-hour week from Monday to Friday, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend commitments required by production schedules. This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that underscores SUNY Brockport’s dedication to the well-being and professional development of its employees, including health, dental, vision coverage, retirement plans, and various work-life services. This opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about theatre production, dedicated to fostering student growth, and committed to maintaining a safe and vibrant creative workspace.
