Job Description

The South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250) is a dedicated organization responsible for commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in South Carolina. Established to coordinate historical programming, public engagement activities, and statewide events, the SC250 Commission plays a pivotal role in preserving and promoting South Carolina's rich heritage. The Commission collaborates with museums, educational institutions, local governments, tourism organizations, and community stakeholders to deliver meaningful experiences that celebrate the state's revolutionary history. In this role, the Commission emphasizes operational excellence, partnership development, and public outreach.

The SC250 Operations & Engagement Manager position is a vital role within the Commission, focusing on the operational administration and logistical execution of a broad range of Commission programs and initiatives. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operational functions that support Commission meetings, statewide events, educational activities, exhibit coordination, facility management, public programs, and financial processes. The role involves supporting operational budgeting activities, invoice and reimbursement processing, vendor coordination, and maintaining detailed operational and financial records. A significant part of the position includes overseeing the SC250 Discovery Center, ensuring that visitor services, exhibits, educational resources, and facility operations are maintained at a high standard for public engagement.

In addition to financial administration, the Operations & Engagement Manager coordinates logistics for numerous Commission events such as ceremonies, conferences, tours, and public programs throughout the state. Responsibilities include developing operational timelines, staffing plans, and logistical documentation, as well as onsite event coordination. The position requires meticulous organization of event venues, transportation, lodging, catering, audiovisual support, and inventory management of operational materials and exhibits.

The role also entails collaboration with the Education Director to support educational programming, student engagement activities, heritage tourism initiatives, and visitor services. The individual serves as a primary operational contact for Discovery Center activities and public-facing programs, ensuring operational readiness and supply inventory management. Additionally, the position supports partnership development by maintaining relationships with museums, historic sites, vendors, and tourism organizations to facilitate collaborative programming and outreach.

This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer or designated supervisor of the SC250 Commission. It is not focused on executive leadership, strategic management, or agency-wide personnel supervision but on efficient and effective operational support of Commission initiatives statewide. The work environment includes office operations, travel within the state, public event coordination, exhibit handling, and operational administration with occasional evening and weekend work based on event schedules. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required or must be obtainable. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a historic and impactful public engagement organization dedicated to celebrating South Carolina's American Revolutionary history.
