The role of Satellite Cashier/Manager at Pembroke Elementary School is vital to the day-to-day operations of the school cafeteria. This position involves overseeing food preparation, supervising kitchen aides, and ensuring all food service activities meet the highest standards of quality and safety. The Satellite Cashier/Manager works under the supervision of the School Lunch Director but holds significant responsibility to manage kitchen staff, maintain portion control, and uphold sanitation and safety standards within the cafeteria. This role combines elements of food preparation, administrative tasks related to meal accounts, inventory management, and team supervision, making it integral to the success of the school’s food service program.

The Satellite Cashier/Manager prepares and follows food production schedules either created independently or provided by the supervisor. They cook a variety of foods based on standardized recipes to ensure consistency in meal quality and nutrition. They manage the timing of food preparation so that items are cooked in small batches throughout the serving period, which helps maintain the freshness and quality of the meals served. Estimating food requirements accurately and controlling portion sizes are central duties to minimize waste and maximize resource use. Supervising kitchen aides and instructing them in food preparation is equally important to keep the kitchen operating efficiently.

Handling the point of sale system during lunch hours is another key responsibility. The Satellite Cashier/Manager accurately identifies reimbursable meals, charges student accounts, and maintains detailed records of all meals served and deposits made. This requires a good understanding of cash handling and basic math skills. Additionally, this role includes requisitioning and managing food and supply orders to ensure the kitchen is well-stocked for daily needs.
