The role of Satcom Training and Documentation Lead (Technical Writer) at Trace Systems is a pivotal position responsible for delivering comprehensive training and maintaining precise documentation for a deployable tactical communications program. This role requires a highly skilled individual to develop, author, and deliver training programs to military operators and government personnel on diverse communications technology including SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, baseband networking equipment, encryption systems, and deployable communications suites such as Emergency Response Terminals, Mobile Command Posts, and Emergency Response Vehicles. The Training Lead ensures that all training materials and documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), student handbooks, quick reference cards, and instructor guides, remain current and reflect system modifications and technological refreshes.
Focused on maintaining the highest quality of training delivery, this role involves hands-on instruction during field exercises, annual maintenance visits, and emergency deployments, providing essential on-site support. The individual oversees training completion tracking and operator certification verification to ensure personnel are fully qualified to operate program systems. Additionally, the position entails managing version control and review cycles for technical publications, supporting preventative maintenance and software patch plans, and coordinating with system engineers and logistics teams to keep documentation aligned with actual configurations.

Job Requirements
- An active, in-scope US Government issued secret clearance
- US citizenship is required
- minimum 5 years developing and delivering training in a DoD tactical communications or SATCOM environment
- demonstrated experience authoring Standard Operating Procedures, technical manuals, or training curricula for military audiences
- hands-on experience with deployable communications systems such as VSAT, SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, baseband routing and switching, RoIP, VVoIP, or similar
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in communications, IT, instructional design, technical writing, or related field, or 4-6 years related military experience in tactical communications training or technical documentation with relevant certifications may substitute
- minimum 5 years developing and delivering training in a DoD tactical communications or SATCOM environment
- demonstrated experience authoring Standard Operating Procedures, technical manuals, or training curricula for military audiences
- hands-on experience with deployable communications systems such as VSAT, SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, baseband routing and switching, RoIP, VVoIP, or similar
- familiarity with SATCOM and RF systems, baseband and networking, encryption and cybersecurity, and platforms
Job Duties
- Develop and deliver new users, new equipment, and refresher training on all program systems
- deliver hands-on training at remote sites during annual maintenance visits, covering operation of all program IT, telecommunications, and support systems
- create and maintain instructor guides, student handbooks, quick reference cards, and practical exercises
- track training completion and proficiency across all program personnel and tiers
- verify that technical support personnel maintain current formal operator certifications on program terminal systems
- author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for each system in the program baseline, including system components, capabilities, and applications
- provide on-site training and documentation support during field exercises, deployments, and emergency response activations
