Job Description
Still Austin Whiskey Co is a pioneering craft distillery based in Austin, Texas. As the first true grain-to-glass distillery to open in Austin since the end of Prohibition, Still Austin has established itself as one of the fastest-growing craft whiskey brands in the United States. The company is deeply rooted in creativity, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of community. Its mission extends beyond just producing top-quality whiskey; it strives to create an inviting and memorable hospitality experience that embodies quality, authenticity, and care. Still Austin is expanding its hospitality footprint through the Still Austin Quarter (SAQ) – a dynamic destination that includes a restaurant, lounge, café, welcome center, and event spaces. This expansion highlights the brand’s commitment to hospitality as an integral part of its identity.
The role of the Barback at Still Austin Whiskey Co is an essential support position within the SAQ environment. The Barback plays a critical part in maintaining the efficiency, cleanliness, and readiness of the bar and service areas while actively engaging with guests and ensuring that their needs are met promptly and with care. Unlike traditional back-of-house roles, Barbacks at Still Austin are guest-facing team members expected to confidently assist with various tasks — ranging from restocking the bar, running food to guests, answering questions about the menu, to fulfilling drink or food requests when appropriate. This role embodies the philosophy that hospitality does not stop at job titles and that everyone on the team plays a vital role in creating exceptional guest experiences.
Successful Barbacks at Still Austin take pride in delivering elevated hospitality, which goes beyond operational support to create genuine connections with guests. They demonstrate ownership of the guest experience by proactively anticipating needs and responding promptly rather than redirecting guests elsewhere. Building growing confidence in food, beverage, and craft spirits knowledge is key to this role, enabling the Barback to engage with guests knowledgeably and effectively. The position requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, balancing flexibility and composure while maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness, organization, and teamwork.
In this role, the Barback is responsible for supporting guest experience and service needs by greeting and assisting guests warmly, accurately conveying information about the food and spirits menu, monitoring potential allergens, and taking ownership of guest requests with professionalism and care. The Barback also assists bartenders and servers by stocking and replenishing bar products, washing and organizing glassware and tools, and maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of bar areas and service stations. Additionally, the Barback contributes to safety and compliance by recognizing signs of intoxication, reporting accordingly, and adhering strictly to all TABC, safety, and sanitation regulations.
The position demands teamwork and communication across departments, with Barbacks supporting other teams during events and handling opening, closing, and side duties as assigned. Despite being a support role, the Barback is empowered to act confidently and proactively as a pivotal member of the hospitality team. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about hospitality, enjoy fast-paced environments, and want to grow their knowledge of food, drink, and spirits within a respected and forward-thinking craft whiskey brand.
