The role of Sales Manager at Metropolitan Hotel is pivotal to its business operations and growth strategy. As the primary on-property sales and catering contact for customers, the Sales Manager takes responsibility for proactively soliciting and managing group and catering-related opportunities. In this role, the individual is expected to actively up-sell each business opportunity to maximize revenue potential while achieving both personal and team-related revenue goals. The Sales Manager plays a crucial part in ensuring that business opportunities are properly and timely handed over for flawless service delivery. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics, customer relationship management, and strategic sales planning to effectively compete and succeed in the hospitality sales arena.

This exempt role reports directly to the Director of Sales, ensuring alignment with the overall sales strategies and objectives of the hotel. The Sales Manager’s responsibilities are broad, encompassing market analysis, contract negotiation, customer engagement, and the management of sales resources. Key functions include developing new business opportunities by identifying and targeting new group and catering customers, building strong relationships within the hospitality community, and leveraging technological sales tools provided by Marriott. The role also involves conducting site inspections, collaborating with event management teams, and continuously collecting guest feedback to enhance service performance and guest satisfaction.

Additionally, the Sales Manager is expected to participate in departmental and staff meetings, contribute to sales strategy development, and maintain accurate business data records. The position requires creativity and innovation in both sales tactics and customer experience initiatives, as well as flexibility and sound decision-making to achieve business goals effectively. Through targeted action plans, weekly sales reports, and focused sales blitzing activities, the Sales Manager contributes to the hotel’s commitment to achieving and surpassing monthly departmental revenue targets. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Responds to incoming group/catering opportunities for the hotel
  • proactively identifies, qualifies and solicits new group/catering business to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals
  • understands the overall market - competitors' strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand etc. and knows how to sell against them
  • closes the best opportunities for the hotel based on market conditions and hotel needs
  • uses negotiating skills and creative selling abilities to close on business and negotiate contracts
  • builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new customers to enable future bookings
  • effectively develops relationships within community to strengthen and expand customer base for group/catering sales opportunities
