With a workforce of over 10,000 employees that serves more than 39 million people worldwide, Unum excels in delivering innovative benefits products and services that support the well-being of employees at client companies. Operating as part of the Unum Group, a Fortune 500 company with a global presence including international offices in Ireland, Poland, and the United Kingdom, Unum maintains significant operations in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as well as Portland, Maine, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and more than 35 field offices across the United States. The company fosters a flexible work environment while offering mental health support, tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment options, and career advancement opportunities that help team members thrive both professionally and personally.

The role of Sales Consultant Associate at Unum is an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to develop their expertise in marketing and technical knowledge within the insurance and employee benefits industry. This position is designed for individuals who aim to become trusted advisors who educate and motivate insurance brokers, agents, and consultants to effectively sell Unum’s suite of products to clients in the small case market segment. Sales Consultant Associates at Unum engage in a comprehensive development program that equips them with critical product knowledge, sales strategies, and practical tools required to build strong relationships and negotiate competitive benefit offerings. The program includes mentorship, associate group classes, and extensive technical and product training. Initially, the role provides a stable base pay during the training period, followed by a commission-driven compensation structure with uncapped earning potential directly linked to new business growth. The role demands a strategic yet personable approach—requiring individuals to acquire an in-depth understanding of Unum’s group and voluntary products, develop robust broker relationships, assist with enrollment processes, and build a sustainable sales pipeline. Beyond sales, successful candidates will also learn to provide education on statutory and compliance topics to brokers and clients, ensuring clients receive valuable insights that inform their benefit decisions. The position offers limited travel and is ideal for professionals who are motivated self-starters, highly organized, and driven by results and collaboration. Unum’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunity ensures a supportive workplace culture where all employees can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the company’s mission of helping clients and their employees lead healthier, more secure lives.
