Job Description
Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is a vital organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for Marines, their families, and the broader Marine Corps community. Operating with a diverse team of military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and volunteers, MCCS ensures that its comprehensive range of programs and services function seamlessly and effectively. The organization fosters a service-oriented environment, prioritizing commitment to the Marine Corps and providing invaluable support through various initiatives that contribute greatly to the welfare and morale of active duty members and their loved ones. MCCS stands as a cornerstone institution embracing teamwork, dedication, and a shared sense of purpose across all departments and services offered.
This specific position, located at MCCS MCRD San Diego, is a Sales Associate role within the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX). The Sales Associate is entrusted with delivering world-class customer service, with a strong emphasis on courtesy and attentiveness, to all customers. This role is integral as the primary point of contact for shoppers, tasked with assisting customers in all retail business matters in a friendly, professional, and proactive manner that cultivates loyalty and enhances their shopping experience. Success in this role requires a positive "I can do that" attitude, offering solutions independently whenever possible before seeking assistance from supervisors or higher management.
Sales Associates act as ambassadors of the MCX brand and the various customer programs it champions, including Military Star, Super Star Student, customer satisfaction surveys, and the Keep it New initiative. The position involves work across various sections of the facility, depending on business needs, including cashiering, self-checkout assistance, customer service, sales floor and departmental support, stockroom and backroom management, and military clothing merchandising. The role may require seasonal or temporary assignments where employees work outdoors or inside coolers and chillers, with proper personal protective equipment provided.
In addition to direct customer service, Sales Associates also undertake essential retail operations tasks such as handling transactions, updating Planogram layouts, identifying and replenishing inventory, setting promotional signage, visually merchandising the sales floor, and maintaining backroom standards with the 5S program for operational excellence. Daily responsibilities can also include light housekeeping duties such as sweeping, dusting, and trash removal to uphold store cleanliness and safety standards. Mentorship and training are provided by Specialist roles, ensuring Sales Associates continuously improve their product knowledge and customer service skills.
The role requires proficiency in utilizing retail equipment such as cash registers, time clocks, RF scanners, mobile printers, and other handheld devices used for price labeling and stocking. Associates also help prepare for year-end inventory and actively identify potential risks related to loss or theft. This position includes occasionally required training or certification related to specific assignments like food safety or fuel operations. Sales Associates embody the values and narrative of the MCX brand while fostering a positive team environment focused on high customer satisfaction and adherence to safety, equity, and anti-harassment policies. The position demands physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs independently, with assistance for heavier items. For specific assignments at gas stations, additional responsibilities include fuel lane maintenance and hazardous substance handling, requiring specialized safety training.
MCCS is committed to equal opportunity employment, providing reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities, and ensuring a harassment-free workplace. The application process is fully online, with mandatory submission through the MCCS Careers website, underlining the importance of compliance with deadlines and thorough preparation of application materials. MCCS stands as a respected employer offering a unique blend of military and civilian expertise, working collectively to deliver exceptional services and contribute to the well-being of the Marine Corps community.
