Job Description
Food Lion is a prominent supermarket chain that has been serving communities across the southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States since 1957. With a strong commitment to providing an easy, fresh, and affordable shopping experience, Food Lion operates with a dedicated workforce of 82,000 associates who serve over 10 million customers weekly. As part of its extensive retail network, Food Lion emphasizes superior customer service and operational excellence in all its stores, including its location in Cary, North Carolina at 8745 Holly Springs Road. The company prides itself on fostering a friendly, inclusive, and cooperative work environment while upholding the highest standards of service and quality to meet the needs of its customers.
The Front End Associate role at Food Lion is pivotal in delivering a fast, flexible, and friendly service experience to customers. This position is a frontline role centered on creating a positive shopping atmosphere by engaging customers warmly, providing prompt and accurate checkout procedures, and assisting with various tasks that keep the front end running smoothly. The associate works closely under the guidance of the Customer Service Manager and Assistant Customer Service Manager to maintain compliance with the Front End Standard Practice Manual and maximize sales through outstanding customer service.
Key expectations for this role include greeting customers by name whenever possible, efficiently scanning and bagging items according to company standards, handling various payment methods such as cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, and government assistance programs, and maintaining accurate cash control procedures. The Front End Associate is also responsible for supporting customers in different ways, such as unloading groceries, checking carts for missed items, and offering assistance to carry orders to customers' vehicles. Maintaining a clean and organized work area, adhering to Food Lion’s dress code with a uniform and name badge, and demonstrating alertness to safety and operational issues are all vital components of this role.
In addition to customer interaction, associates are expected to retrieve shopping carts from parking areas safely, keep the MVP savings center KIOSK operational, and promptly report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs. Associates must successfully complete computer-based training and other training aids to stay current with company practices.
This position requires associates to meet specific physical and technical demands, including lifting and moving items up to certain weights, operating various communication and cashiering systems, and standing or walking for extended periods. Food Lion is committed to inclusive hiring and provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or any other protected status.
The Front End Associate role at Food Lion provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy engaging with customers, thrive in a dynamic retail setting, and are eager to contribute to a team-focused environment that values quality service and community connection. This position typically involves part-time or full-time employment, and while salary details are not specified, Food Lion is known for competitive compensation and comprehensive associate benefits.
