Job Description

The Professional Tree Care Company, established in 1980 and based in Berkeley, CA, is a well-respected tree service provider serving commercial, residential, and public works projects across Northern California, from Mendocino to Monterey, and from San Francisco to Sacramento. Known for its commitment to sustainable practices, the company recycles 100% of the material removed from job sites through its own Green Waste Recycle Yard. This unique approach not only supports environmental responsibility but also allows the company to create organic mulch and custom mill logs for dimensional lumber, setting it apart in the industry. The company prides itself on having the staff, equipment, resources, and expertise to undertake tree services of any size and complexity, catering to a diverse clientele that values quality and eco-conscious solutions.

The company is currently seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to join their dynamic team within the tree care industry. This hybrid role is designed for an individual who will split their time between outbound sales calling and learning recruitment duties under the guidance of the Chief People & Strategy Officer. Working approximately 20 hours per week, primarily Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., this position requires strong writing and editing skills, accurate typing abilities, and a personable approach to phone outreach. Reliable personal transportation for local errands around Berkeley is also essential.

The Administrative Assistant will begin each day supporting the Client Services Manager by contacting clients to confirm receipt of written estimates, following up on project bids that have not yet been accepted, and conducting post-project surveys to gauge customer satisfaction and encourage referrals. The second half of the day is dedicated to recruiting, where the assistant will utilize the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to identify suitable candidates for open positions. Responsibilities include sending and analyzing surveys, scheduling and conducting phone interviews, and forwarding qualified applicants for further review.

The role is ideal for someone with a fast and efficient typing style and an extroverted personality who enjoys regular interaction with people. Experience in retail, customer service, or any role requiring daily contact with numerous customers is highly beneficial. This opportunity offers a supportive work environment near Berkeley Bowl West, featuring casual dress and a team-oriented culture.

Compensation is set at $24.00 per hour, with overtime paid at $36.00 per hour pending prior approval. While this position is initially part-time, there is potential for increasing hours to 30 or even 40 per week in the third quarter, subject to budget allowances and departmental needs. If the role transitions to full-time after 90 days, employees become eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and optical insurance with a 50% company contribution, paid holidays, sick days, and paid time off, along with options to purchase coverage for legal dependents.

Candidates must reside within a 40-minute commute of Berkeley, CA, possess a strong work ethic, and demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask across sales and recruiting priorities. Bilingual English/Spanish skills and experience with CRM or ATS platforms are preferred but not required. This position represents a unique chance to develop valuable skills in sales support and recruiting within a fast-moving and environmentally conscious company, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to grow their careers in these areas.
