Job Description
Noe Valley Wine & Spirits is a charming boutique wine, spirits, and beer shop located in the picturesque Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Known for its commitment to exceptional customer service, the shop provides a warm and welcoming environment where customers can explore a curated selection of quality beverages. Specializing in French, Spanish, and Italian wines, the store also offers new world wines that align with a sophisticated old world palate. The shop prides itself on maintaining a clean, organized, and friendly atmosphere where both staff and customers can enjoy a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience.
As a small neighborhood establishment, Noe Valley Wine & Spirits values product knowledge and passion for fine wines and spirits, aiming to deliver expert advice and personalized service to each visitor. The team cultivates a lively and enjoyable workplace, balancing professional expertise with a fun, collaborative culture. This role is a part-time position with a competitive hourly wage, negotiable between $20 and $25 per hour, based on experience and capability. Working hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with the shop closed on Mondays. There is also potential for this role to expand to full-time for the right candidate.
The Sales Clerk position at Noe Valley Wine & Spirits entails multiple responsibilities, including assisting customers with bottle selection, managing stock, and maintaining the shop’s cleanliness and organization standards. The ideal candidate will have a mid-level experience in the wine, beer, or spirits industry, with a passion for the products and a willingness to take on varied roles within the shop. They must have strong product knowledge to educate and support customers effectively, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business. Candidates with recognized wine education credentials such as WSET, CSW, or Court of Masters are preferred, though practical industry experience is essential.
Besides excellent customer interaction skills, candidates must be able to handle physical tasks such as lifting bottles up to 50 lbs repeatedly and keeping the shop tidy through tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces. Familiarity with point of sale systems is required, alongside computer literacy in programs such as Excel, Word, Affinity, and Mail Chimp. Experience in basic web maintenance and social media is highly desirable, as the role involves contributing to the shop’s digital marketing efforts by writing engaging copy for social media and web content.
This role fits individuals who thrive in a small team setting, are eager to participate collaboratively in product tastings and selections, and enjoy the challenge of wearing multiple hats in a dynamic retail environment. The shop is dedicated to offering a generous employee discount and maintaining a pleasant and fun workplace. Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity for wine and spirits enthusiasts looking for part-time employment with room to grow in an engaging and supportive boutique retail environment.
